Default USDM vs. JDM Frontend Weight

Not sure if this was ever discussed, I can't remember it.
Is an R heavier with a JDM frontend?

I've heard that the JDM front end is heavier - probably due to this fact, though I can't actually confirm it.

From what I have heard, the JDM front with OEM HIDs is heavier than the stock US front, but the JDM front without OEM HIDs is lighter...

Well the OEM HIDs in Japan come with their own power source.. you would be suprised... It's hard to lift one JDM OEM HID with one hand.

Looking in the Perfect guide, it breaks down the weight in several areas with different options.
The weight for the 96-below 3dr R goes from 2336lbs to 2380lbs (different options means different weight)
The weight for the 98+ spec 3dr R goes from 2358lbs to 2469lbs (different options means different weight)

Thats crazy because the US R weights in at 2595(97-98) to 2639lbs(00-01)

Thats difference varies from (only using the 98+spec JDM R since it has SRS and ABS)
2595-2358=237lbs difference
2639-2469=170lbs difference
Thats a major difference, however I'm not sure if those JDM numbers are curb weight, etc... Also note: the JDM R has heavier seats and also heavier rims (98+)!!!

The OEM JDM hids seem pretty bulky.

JDM hood is heavier than the USDM hood.

A friend at one of our meetings has the JDM front when we lifted his hood it was definitely heavier. I can't say by how much. Maybe 10-15lbs ?

My thoughts exactly. And why I think the JDM conversion is lighter. But I did not weigh the car before and after so I cannot be sure. Also the rad. core support looks lighter/thinner than stock USDM.

I have been told by Victor Perri (97 TYPE-R 312) that the USDM IS heavier due to the bumper needing to meet DOT crash standards. I am not aware of the exact number, or all of the min00t details.

I hope this helps.

If you want more info, ask him. The man knows WAAAAAY too much about ITR's. When it comes to ITR knowledge, Victor 0wnz!

I sacrificed a couple of pounds for, IMO, the best one thing you can do to a USDM Integra.

JDM is deinately lighter even with HID option. The JDM rebar "twig" compared to our heavy as hell piece are two VASTLY different weights. At least 20 lb difference. Bumper/fenders/light housings (not counting HID's) are about same.

I disagree that the single best thing you can do to a USDM R is change the way it looks...

I didn't realize that's what he meant Flux, but I'd have to agree with you that there are plenty of better things to spend $3k+ on than a cosmetic modification.
