i have a 1999 honda accord lx sedan with the 2.3L I4 vtec engine and a manual transmission.

it has 140k miles, and i purchased it this spring with no maintenance history.

i am currently burning nearly a quart of oil every 100 miles!

there is not any noticeable 'pooling' under my car when parked, and very little blue smoke out the tail pipe (only seen at high rpm's).

could this be a timing belt issue?

other suggestions?

 

get a leakdown compression test done

 

maybe check/replace the PCV valve?

 

i recently replaced the pcv valve and installed a catch can.

how much does a leak down test cost?

 

is there any reason that a timing belt problem could cause oil consumption?

 

No. But if you get the rings or valve guides replaced to fix the oil prob you should definatly have the timing belt, tensioner pulley and waterpump done at the same time.
