Default Does anyone else think the Fit scene has slowed down?

I can't help but notice that 6 months ago when I purchased my Fit it seemed as though new parts for the Fit and customizing it were hot topics. Now, just 6 months later I don't see the same enthusiasms about it.

Has the novelty already worn off? Or am I just out of touch with the scene?

I don't think it ever took off to be honest with you. I still don't even see an aftermarket dash kit for headunits yet.

This forum has slowed down...that's for sure. Check out Fitfreak and you'll see what I'm talking about. JR should have their SC kits out soon. I know a few companies are working on turbo kits.

The problem is people are having trouble BUYING new Fits. The demand exceeds the supply still. I would imagine it would be difficult to do R&D on a car you have trouble getting your hands on.

One look at the dash and you can tell it won't be easy to mass produce something affordable, yet has quality.

Personally i've moved on from the Fit. It has a **** poor rear crash safety rating (for whiplash etc.) than other cars, plus the Civic is a much safer car with comparable gas mileage. Along with that, the Civic has better times and more power, which is good if I ever need to get around hills or mountains, I wouldn't want the Fit to be straining through something. That combined with the fact that I can't get near one much less sit in one for a test drive makes it ridiculous.

I have a feeling a lack of availability makes it less appealing to a lot of people.

personally i think that it has slowed down, not with the number of companies coming out w/ parts, but w/ the number of users on here and on fitfreak. Personally i am on both websites at least 10 times a day but i feel like a lotta ppl that started posting have really stopped.

in regards to more demand then supply is definitely true b/c i understand that it is very hard 2 get a hold of the vehicle. the number of us that got it back in april/may/june (april 27th for me) got lucky.

as for the dash kit, scosche has a dash kit coming out in February. if you never heard of em, they are one of THE BIGGEST dash kit makers for almost every car out there. there fit kit is comin out soon.

Theirs ALWAYS going to be a disadvantage driving small light cars.

Not really, a few other cars had better results, at least marginal and good. I read the same article and that's what turned me off hte fit.

You may be hit by something huge that pushes you clear across the road, but that doesn't mean there could be a better design in place to keep your neck from snapping if you get rear ended. Cabin intrusion is one thing, but design could improve that rear rating.

The civic is less than 2 feet longer, a few inches wider, weighs only a few hundred pounds more, and gets a much more satisfactory safety rating (automobile.com has actual figures).

If I was just toodling around in a city all the time it wouldn't be a problem. But I drive on the highway and I take long trips occasionally. Along with the fact that I have a family i'd rather not see paralyzed because I picked the wrong car. I'm not saying the fit is a bad car, I think it's small and practical and it should be the direction we are going. I've just found some faults that raise concern to me that, given the time I haven't owned one (because the wait is so long) have changed my opinion.

That thing is awful, it didn't get ANY good safety ratings and doesn't come with side air bags

If the Fit had Active Head Restraints like the civic, the rear collision scores would be much better.

Hopefully the next gen Fit will get the ACE body structure and Active Head Restraints. These two things should really make the Fit a safer vehicle.

That would really make a difference. I would reconsider the Fit if the new gen had those.

If Honda keeps their current safety moto, it should indeed have both. Every new car (complete redesign) is supposed to have every safety feature that Honda offers. That will definitely include ACE structure, and should include active head restraints. Ironically, only Si Civics got VSA for '07. I'm not sure what Honda's rationale for that was. Even the S2000 got VSA, and it will likely be a dead model next year...

On the lack of Fit interest lately, I'd agree that it's completely due to the supply. I've seen one new Fit at our dealership in the last month. Pathetic. I'm also waiting for the redesign -- probably available summer '08.
