If stock tires suck, what tires do you all recommend?
looks like I missed out on jonebone's thread (which is now locked) on his drunk accident. I, too, applaud him for sharing with us his story.
I think his probably had more to do with the tires than my recent slipping on black ice did. We both had stock performance tires.
Perhaps sticky tires wouldn't have helped either of us....he was going too fast around a bend in the road (dry road)....pretty much same with me I was only going maybe 35 in a 25mph right angle turn-- but with a tiny bit of moisture on the ground.
So what tires to get? It rains and rains on and off here in Oregon especially during the winter.
My friend says Falken Azenis are good....but no water channels so he says they're bad in standing water --and will hydroplane a lot. He says they're fine for wet roads though.
To drive fairly aggressively, must everyone have rain tires in the wet winters and summer tires in the summer? And studs for the snow? :x
Sorry for the incoherent sentances...iit's late, i've had a little to drink...and it's almost New Years
If you could have just one set of tires for all around driving what would you have? In that case, would you just stick with stock performance tires?

Your smoking rock.
Stock tires are THE worst things ever
there are actually HATE sites specifically for the stock michelins
and until you've done auto x, track visits or some times of crazy runs (deals gap, ITR expo)
you've never done aggressive driving.

I would probably give the
to anything Type X recommended. The guy knows his pimp gear. Also, what about Proxes 4s?
Mike, did you see that show on MTV "True Life: I'm a Staten Island Girl"?

Actually I would think his accident had more to do with the fact that he took a 30mph turn at more than double that speed. Just my thought.
But yeah the stock tires do suck.
My recommendation: Goodyear F1 or BF Goodrich KDWs
Enjoy!

Stock Michelins ABSOULTLY SUCK in the rain. My car hydrplanes all the time. Once mine are worn, they are history. They are good in dry, but horrible in wet
I always like Falken, I have also liked Bridgestone too.

Do you mean f1 gs-d3 cause thats all I could find. The seem good except for tread wear ride comfort and road noise(kinda peformance compramises but...). they're not even rated in snow or ice so I would think they would be horrible in snow or ice.

In ALL conditions you would be left sorely wanting with the F1 GS-D3, they would be like ice skates below freezing and in snow. If you rarely get below 40*F and NEVER have snow or ice any summer tire will most likely be alright but if you do have any snow or ice and can only have one set of tires you will have to go with all-seasons (which in reality aren't really good at anything, they are a serious compromise). Some recommended all-seasons would be the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M/S (Loved Em, reasonable price:performance), Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S(Loved Em, but lots of $$$), Kumho Ecsta ASX (I didn't like them, but they are very affordable), Bridgestone Potenza 960 or th,e big dog of the UHP A/S tires, the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (horribly expensive, but also by far the best IMHO).

IMO, the HPT/Summer/ Mich Exalto's kick *** , best all around tires i've owned.
i've hadthe aziens and they are great tires but wear out super quick and anything but dry pavement is a joke with them(ran quite a few autocrosses and drag events with 300hp civic at that time on the azeins, which contributed to the quick ownage of rubber). i've also autox'd with ES 100's and was impressed, not the best tires but considering the price they were great for "aggressive" driving and light snow/rain.
I haven't experienced the A/S tires on the si so I cant really comment on the performance of them but the HPT's that are avalaible from the factory are dope as far as i'm concerned

they are a "summer only tire"
but for "winter" you should be using a tire like a blizzak in you live in an area with horrible conditions

so how much are the Pirelli P-Zero Nero M/S tires each?
Thanks a lot guys... now I won't fall for the stupid FREE TIRES FOR LIFE stealership ploy. I don't ever want to get free car washes each month either at their carwash.
Once I get my car fixed, I'm gonna detail it to perfection ;D
