steering wheel shaking
I bought tires today and had them balanced. However, I the steering wheel is shaking at speeds 70mph and up; its not a very hard shaking but its very noticable. It was doing this before the new tires also. My rims are not bent from what i see. Any ideas why this is happening?
bring them back to get them rebalanced, some shops have either bad balancing machines or old machines or the guy that was balancing them did a really shitty job and wanted to get you car out fast so he half-*** it. Now that you got new tires you should get the car aligned, there they will tell you if any front end parts are loose that are readt to give out.
my integra was doing the same thing my mechanic said its from the disk's i told him it wasnt shaking while braking he told me discs anyway soo i had them replaced and apparently he was right it doenst shake

Off centered steering wheel doesn't cause shaking.
It could be worn tie rod ends but it's most likely poorly balanced or you may have thrown a weight. Take it somewhere that uses the strip weights and not the anchor style.

OK i have not yet done anything. I will first try moving switch back and front wheels. Then alignment(doesnt help shaking from what i hear but i need one anyway), then rebalance. If that doesnt help then i guess i looking into wheel bearings and other stuff... Some people say my rims could be bent...they dont look so; there are slight curbage on 2 of them but not any hard hits to bend them..

Do you have a jack? Jack up the front of your car so the wheels are off the ground. Grab your two front wheels and wiggle them top to bottom, not side to side. If you get some wicked wiggling you have balljoint/tierod issues and that could be causing your steering shake. Same with the rotors as mentioned above.
You didn't mention what wheels are on your car. Did you go aftermarket + bigger? Since you said it was happening before the new tires and still now.. if you went with different rims did you ever get an alignment when you did?
Also if you have tie rod issues,etc... you will need to replace those and get an alignment afterwards.

Theres several things I would check. First check you alignment(take it to a shop), if it still happens, you should check your tierod ends, both outer and inner. Then check the upper and lower ball joints on your upper and lower control arms. And on a final not, I have had a bad steering rack cause a similair problem.

The hub face can get corrosion on it, which can lift one side of the rotor and cause a wobble. It doesn't have to be much to be felt.
