NEED HELP!
alright my buddy blew his stock D16Y7 so we got a new long block same motor we just swapped everything in. its starts but we are having problems the Check Engine light come on then off for a split second and it does it all the time and when it comes on it makes the motor bogg. and the speedo jumps too. even if the car is just park. i never ran into a problem like this before. some one help
yeah im sure it couldnt be the timing since it was a long block and bought from a shop. but i just put a new Dis. cap and rotor. along with plugs and wires. i swapped the wires with the old ones but still doing it. im thinking its electrical since its doing this weird flicker sh*t
I'm sure you've double checked all sensors are plugges into correct ones, some plugs look very similar and are even the same shape but different wire colors.
Its a long block yes, but if the motor is out it just makes sense for peace of mind to quickly change the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump. This also allows you to check and set the timing. Did the long block come with a dizzy? Put on your old one; unless it blew when the old motor went.

the new long block did not come with a dizzy so i did use the old one. motor seems healthy doesnt smoke at all. the shop my friend bought it from said it had about 50-60K on it.
Toss a couple more generic ground wires on the engine and see if that makes the problem go away. Wouldn't be the first time I solved a Honda problem by aiding the finicky electrical system in finding a place to go

highly fetched, but could be something like a spark arcing in the wires which doesn't seem to be the case or it arcing/shorting in the cap/rotor....could be bad spark plugs? just a thought...
and yes, what archidictus said is often true, bad grounds can wreak havoc on a car's electrical...
