Default My 2006 SI... will need ALOT of body work :(

Well yesterday was both a good and bad day. I installed my Injen CAI in the morning (about a 2 1/2 hour job but I took my time) and tested it out. Boy it sure did sound good. The car absolutely screams in VTEC.

So anyways I go out to Applebee's with a few buddies and drink 2 Bud Light Brewtuses (22 oz drinks). I'm an idiot and decide to rip my car a little too much. My buddy (coincidentally driving a 2007 Black SI) was following me so I wanted to show off the intake I guess. The speed limit on the road was 30, and I honestly dont know how fast I went around the turn. I just know I was accelerating in 3rd gear and in VTEC when it started to slide out of control (60+ mph maybe??). The car swerved to the left into the other lane and I slammed the brakes to spin out of it. I guess I overcompensated and then we fishtailed to the right, over about a 1" cement curb and wound up hitting a telephone pole on the passenger side.

Oddly enough, both of my LEFT wheels are destroyed and the back left one was completely ripped from the car and flew 10 feet into the air (according to my buddy following). The right side of the car will need body work and the back axel, rotor, etc will all need to be repaired. I seriously doubt the car is totalled (75% of value) because it would take a good 15k+ to do that.

Oh and I'm ok, except for the burn/cut that the seatbelt did to my neck. My passenger (who was on the side that hit the pole) was complaining about back problems but didn't go the hospital or anything.

And before you people criticize, I'll be 23 next month and have never had any points. Clean driving record since 16. I just got a little carried away and now have to face the consequences.

I'm going to upload some pictures right now and I'll post them in the next 10 minutes or so. One question, does anyone have any estimates as to how much my insurance would go up? I have state farm and currently pay about 200 a month, but I chose to have some added features in my plan. If anyone could comment I'd appreciate it.

Pics coming real soon.

This isn't directed at you, solely, but;

I've noticed a lot of Civic crashes recently, and of course, particularly Si's. I bet a new insurance blitz will be on the rise, as if owning a civic wasn't expensive enough

WoW i am glad your okay when i installed my intake i wanted to push it more myself but didn't get my self into trouble doing it. I am guessing almost 8/10,000 for the damage just a figure from just looking at it i hope everything goes well with getting it fixed good luck !

P.S. Where you running the stock Micheline all-seasons ?

Yea your suspension looks fucked, quarter panel ruined, door is messed, it will be expensive, I wouldn't be surprised if they totalled it or came really close.

BTW those tail lights aren't my favorite

You went out drinking and driving and showing off and wrecked your car and hurt you and your friend, then had the gall to post it on the internet. Nobody here cares about how your rates will go up, you need to lose your license as people like you don't deserve to be on the road. Your lucky you didn't kill someone with your foolish actions

Ahh **** man that sucks

I won't pretend to know a whole lot about insurance, but if they found out the circumstances of the crash (60 in a 30, alchohol, reckless driving) it is going to go up insanely high.

Just remember - drinking and driving = no no

And if the wheel literally flew off off the car, what kind of damage is there underneath?

What did the police think of this? You had a few drinks before driving, was your alcohol level not high enough to arrest you?

NSXMatt, thank you for your flame. I'm sure you are a perfect driver and have never done committed any mistake whatsoever in your entire life. Maybe I had the "gall to post this on the internet" in order to prevent this from happening to anyone else? Did you consider that?

Honestly, I could care less what you think and you could go to hell for all I care. But if JUST ONE person reads this and it convinces them to drive their car with care and prevents an accident then I'm happy. I actually care about other people and I want everyone to learn from my mistake. I figured it wouldn't hurt to at least ask if anyone has any experience with rate increases (seeing as how this is my first claim).

Maybe instead of flaming you should provide some meaningful insight rather than your worthless drivel. I posted this not more myself, but so others could maybe learn from my mistakes.

PS - I never would have "got on it" if there were oncoming cars. So, I'm not "lucky I didn't kill someone", the only person I put at risk was myself and my passenger. No one else on the road.

Your passenger is one too many, and you should have known better than to drink ANYTHING and then go out and stomp on it. I think there's a sharp learning curve with this kind of stuff, be happy you're a living idiot rather than a dead one. I'm glad no one was hurt but there were bad decisions being made left and right in that post and putting someone else other than yourself in danger is irresponsible and downright selfish.

Well I guess everyone here wants to flame, and thats fine.

Rahxephon - I only bought altezzas to distinguish my car from the other Fiji Blue Civic in my town. I live in a small area and was not too happy when I discovered someone else driving my car. So I put on something cheap. I'm glad this certifies me as a ricer, for simply wanting to be different.

Elohel - I told the cop I had one beer. He did the field tests on me and I passed fine. He smelled my breath, and from his opinions I did not require a breathalizer. As I said, I did not feel "drunk" at all. The only charge on the ticket is "failure to control speed to avoid a collision", which is 130$ and 3 points. The cop told me to not pay the ticket, and take it to court. He pulled up my driving record on his computer and told me that realistically a judge will probably give me 1 point and just make me pay the court fees.

Wild_WILL - I was running on the summer tires. They have 9500 miles on them and the tread was still in "good" condition.

Accordselux - My passenger told me to stomp on it.... he said he wanted to hear my intake and told me to go for it. Granted, I was at the wheel so in the end it is all my responsibility. However, my passenger did agree so its not like I was really selfish and holding him hostage in my car or anything. Mutual consent here.

If your friend begged you to jump off a bridge wiht him would you do it? A responsible person would realize that they shouldn't go twice the posted speed limit through a curve after they had a few. Self control is what could be exercised in here. I'm not flaming you, i'm providing criticism. You already crashed your damn car its not like i'm gonna sit here and make fun of you for it.

I understand you fully if my friend told me to punch it i would prob do the same thing you were running sticky tires but prob wasent ready for that vtec punch in 3rd mid corner your tires weren't ready as well. The altezzas arent my thing as well but to each there own now you know what the car can handle overall and have given insight to others as well good luck dude we all make mistakes !

Yeah, how expensive do you think? Each of my friends all have estimates. So far my friends have estimated between 9500 and 14k. I paid 23000 for the car and 75% is exactly 17250. Considering there is no damage to the front of the car where everything important is, I doubt it's totalled. My personal estimate is 12 grand.

And yes, I understand your criticism. I know the old adage "would you jump off a bridge if your friend did". I've driven this road a million times and the turn CAN be taken at 60 mph, I'm 100% positive since I had done it before (not to condone speeding). Its one of those roads by a school where the speed limit is posted lower than the road can actually be taken.

Having said this, I made bad decisions and I hope someone, anyone, learns. Don't take turns too fast and save your speed for the track, or at least a straightaway without traffic.

I am not a perfect driver but I don't drink, never had a speeding ticket and I have never had a accident in 15 years of driving. You had beer and went out and put peoples lives in jeapordy behind the wheel. I'm not going to be all emotional and teach a life lesson, your 23 and old enough to know what you did was stupid. Your decision to post it on a public forum puts you up for all the flames you deserve.

Don't even try and say you did this to prevent others from doing what you did, your just grasping for straws with that one. Just sit back and take the flames and suck it up. If it upsets you that bad go take a drive and cool off......wait nevermind.

Grasping for straws???? Are you serious? Why else would I post this here? If I didn't care about other's well-being, then I would have never have posted. The motivation for me posting was to inform others of my mistake, so that these unnecessary mistakes could be avoided. My motivation for posting was not to set myself up for internet flame... that is just a by product of admitting my ignorance.

Make your jokes, go ahead. We all know that arguing on the internet is pointless. If your jokes make you laugh, and anyone else for that matter, then thats great. I'm glad you get a laugh out of my bad decisions. However, I my decisions have been made and I accept the consequences, as any grown man should. I just thought most people over 30 years of age were at least mature enough to refrain from childish jokes. If you would like to continue with them, please do as you will further prove my point

Well all and all I think it's safe to say that you have learned your lesson. Right? Personally I think you are very lucky because you could have very easily gone to jail among other things that i'm sure were mentioned.

Oh and by the way....your car might be totalled. Not sure just by lookin at the pics but if it is you're better off getting a new one because it will never drive the same if it has frame damage.

Good thing everybody's okay though. Good luck pulling through man! And next time BE CAREFUL!

Rico, thanks for some meaningful input, I really do appreciate it (as opposed to 100% flame).

What exactly is "frame" damage? You mean besides the panels and all? THe reason I ask is because all of the doors/trunk/sunroof open and close exactly as a stock car would (no squeaks, no banging, no scraping, etc). Condsidering where the telephone pole hit, I think it is pretty amazing that the passenger door lines up and closes perfect with the frame. Also the trunk lines up fine too.

The actual tow-truck guy was the only person I've spoken with who thought the car could be totalled. All 3 of the cops think its fine, and my friends believe this too. The tow-truck guy only thought it may be totalled because of the INTERIOR damage, which I didn't understand. Only 2 side airbags deployed, and the rest of the inside is fine. I've heard, by word of mouth, that airbags can cost up to 3 grand a piece.

Insurance companies sometimes play it by ear. I know some companies run different rates (50% vs 75%) or based on the extent of the damages-even if the parts aren't expensive, the labor might negate any real pursuit. If you talk with an adjuster and they see the damages and understand your concern for the safety of the car (and if the suspension was yanked out, the unibody was probably twisted) they might declare it a total.

if you think its 12k in damage, then add another few thousand for the airbags, because airbags cost a lot to replace. It might be totaled since the value of the car goes down by so much every year. Since you paid X amount, depreciation of the car would put it at a lower Y amount and 75% of that will be lower than your estimate. So 12k + 2K-4K to replace the airbags is roughly totaled.

Although I think this sort of thing NEEDS to happen sometimes to keep everyone in check, it's too bad that it does.

I give this guy credit for coming in here and being mature about it, though. Here's how most people's post would have looked:

aight so i was out wit my homies on friday and we were drinkin' sorta at applebees and then my friend was like 'punch it yo' so I punched it and i was probably goin 80 in a 25 and this corner was wack yo.
