light weight suspension
im gonna have my rex in the garage for a while and i wanted to redo the suspension, right now i just have all the struts bars and im going to order a jk traction bar. I wanted to use light weight suspension peaces does any company make them for the ef.
I'm a little bit of a weight freak, and I remember some of the weights I found while doing my suspension:
MOST coilover suspension kits that use aluminum bodies should weigh less than stock. Konis and GCs are about 10lbs lighter total than the stock setup if I remember correctly. Stiffer-than-stock springs of any kind will weigh less, since few coils = stiffer = less metal = less wieght. When you take the stocksprings out, you'll see what I mean.
Aluminum lower control arms are available as well, and will weigh a few pounds less.
The CRX HF front sway bar weighs a couple of pounds less than the stock Si bar, and way less than any aftermarket front bars. The HF front bar is good for autocrossing, but they can be hard to find for that very reason.
Now the REAR sway bar is a pain point. It needs to be replaced with something stiffer (heavier) and the supporting brackets usually need beefing up to support that. The Suspension Techniques adjustable rear sway bar kit is a great upgrade for handling, but once its all installed, it adds 12lbs of weight compared to the stock sway bar and brackets. Someday I would like to replace mine with something as stiff but lighter.
With all that said, the EASIEST way to really get your "sprung weight" lower is to just spend an extra few hundred $ on lighter wheels.
