top of strut popping out

top of strut popping out
my friend just called me and told me he installed his new struts/spring and when he lowered his car down the top of the strut pops out he said about 3 inches....any help would be great

thats what i told him, but he said he put it all back together how he took it apart. he's gonna call me when he gets it apart so i can walk him threw it
