timing belt snaped... :(
My timing belt snaped on my way home from work today. I herd that it doesnt always bend the valves. is that true? I had a prelude with an h23 and when the timing belt snaped i needed a head job. what do you guys think
its pretty rare that you dont bend any valves at all. i would say to put a new belt on and check compression. if any cylinders are bad, either try to find a head at the junkyard, or go with a sohc vtec d15. rebuilding is way too costly when higher horsepower replacement engines can be had for half the price of a rebuild. assuming you are stock of course..

same thing happened to me.
It was on my old D15 engine. My friend replaced it and it worked fine.

You are wrong
yea throw a new belt on it and see what happens, d series heads are cheap

The valves are most likely bent if this is the case.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by GsrTurboCRX88 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i did crank it over once but imediately stopped cause i could tell the belt was broke</TD></TR></TABLE>
Ive put timing belts on hondas at work after people have broken them and the engines worked just fine but these people werent street racing or snatching gears at the time the belt broke either more of just cruising along with the flow of traffic

True, and then you will know if you need a new engine or not.

i will look at it this weekend. i was prolly going like 30 or 35. the thing is the belt looks new, the teeth dont have any wear on them so i am wondering if the cam siezed up or something

make sure the distributor bearing isnt seized, will snap a belt in a heartbeat.

I'm With this idea something i think is wrong inside. check if u see orange dust or red / orange wire under the cap something must of took a ****. we all know honda distributer can just go whenever with no sign...
i can vouch for the seized distributor bearing as well. it happened to me and acted just like a timing belt issue.
you can pull the distributor off with 3 bolts. then try to rotate the engine and check with the top timing cover off. have somene watch the belt and make sure there are no missing teeth. if the cam doesnt rotate with the crank rotation, then your timing belt is toast. if it rotates just fine, get a new distributor and do your timing and youll be ok. good luck.
