Do you mean those metal clips that the pads sits on and you have to grease them for the pads to slide freely upon braking?

no... those are the shims... tale tell tabs are what are riveted onto the brake pad its self... 1 per caliper... as the pad slowly wears away, it the metal peice will rub against your rotor & make a sreaching noise... there are 2 per brake pad kit... (4 pads in total, 2 w/ the tabs, bt on oposite sides of the pads, & 2 of the other ones)i just need to know wheater it mater is the tab is at the bottom or top... i have read the book & it only mentions to put them on the inside

if its riveted on...the pad goes on the inside and only goes on one way.....if u have it upside down it shouldn't fit...or vice versa but if i remember should be bottom...not postive tho

Actually those are not the shims. The shims are what goes on the back of the pad to absorb the noise. #9 in the diagram is the shim. What you are talking about are the sensors that let you know when the brake is low. They go in the inside part of the brake. How were your old ones? Was the sensor on top or on the bottom?

you are talking about the "squeelers" on the brake pads themselves. i dont think the orientation matters. they aren't in that exploded picture that someone posted.. it seems like i put my pads in with the squeelers on the top side.

I remember doing the rear pads and it didnt matter whether it was on the top or bottom, if in doubt cut em off, I have the wheels off enough to notice the brakes getting thin.

just for correct info reasons i will answer this: the correct name is "brake pad warning indicator".

the correct orientation is inboard pad TOP facing. reason being is with the wheels rolling forward the "indicator" will be drug, with it bottom mounted it will be deflected.

ALL IN ALL, IT DOESNT MATTER, you will hear them, and puttin them bottom facing wont cause any damage. just wanted the correct info here for future searching.
