If you said you had an std you should look into doing the wiring for mpfi first

use your stock harness but you gota add a bunch of plugs and wires and extend some search dpfi to mpfi conversion. also your gona want to convert to obd1 if you use the p28. wich is more wireing and you gota buy the conversion harness.

Use the stock harness. Just covert it to mpfi, Convert the distributor plug to obd1, Use an obd1 distributor and buy or make a jumper harness for the ecu.

Use your stock harness.
Get the original distributor from the motor you are putting in (to match the ecu)
A jumper harness fits between the original plugs that go to your ecu and the new obd1 ecu. Its used to adapt between different styles of ecu's so you dont have to rewire the whole harness

Get an adjustable cam gear as well. d15 bottom ends coupled with d16 heads usually end up being around +3/-3 degrees advanced or retarded and never dead on without the help of a gear.
