Default 2.2L B18c5 Rebuild/Build up

Hey

Finally got another R after my old one was stolena nd stripped completely. Motor has 108k miles and the motor is needing a rebuild. I been thinking on the rebuild also building it up but i havent heard alot about brian crower stroker kits. Anyone know the pro's and con's with him.

This is the setup I plan on building

Head B18C5:
Skunk2 Pro 3+
Skunk2 Pro Cam Gears
Skunk2 Pro Springs/Retainers
Skunk2 HI Comp Valved STD
Skunk2 Pro IM
Skunk2 Pro 70MM TB
Stage 3 Port & Polish
JDM 4-1 Header

Block B18C5:
Darton Sleeved 86MM
Brian Crower 2.2L Stroker Kit 86MM/Bore x 95MM/ Stroker
Running 12.5:1 Comp Ration
Toda 85MM Oil Pump Gear
Morso 5.5Q Aluminum Oil Pan/Pickup

Also Having it fully Balanced and Blue Printed. Also wondering am i going to have any or little piston to valve clearance issues.

Thanks
Christopher

that is quite the setup you have there. you need to tell us though what youll be using the car for. the motor you described should not be street driven, although i can say ive seen worse.......

crower is a reputable company with several good parts. i doubt the stroker crank is any different. i dont have personal experience with it but i wouldnt hesitate to say its a quality part. if anyone has experience or thinks otherwise please prove me wrong

if you've already got a full B18C5 including intake manifold theres no point in getting the skunk2 IM as its near enough the same thing?

Before build its going to be daily Driven but after build i might still keep in a daily driven but depends on if i get another r in time

Yes but, with a complete build i was thinking just getting a brand new complete IM along with it since JDM Header is going to be shipped from HOP in japan

With a 95mm stroke you will see an increase in bearing wear, especially if revved over 8500. That is a lot of stroke to pound the bearings.

The bearings on our 85x98 setup were replaced after 8k miles of hard use, but only revving to 8300.

If you want to do a stroker setup, I would lean more towards a 91mm crank, you will still be in the 2.1L range, but you will have much longer bearing life, and you will be able to use a longer revv range to compliment the 4.7fd.

Good luck with the buildip

Ok, why sleeve 81 mm? Even, if you were going 20+ lbs of boost stoock sleeves are fine.

If you are going to sleeve go to 84.5 mm and keep the compression at 11:5. That will insure you have good reliability with high hp.

Don't knife edge the crank and use the money to buy OEM Honda bearings instead.

Why do you say not to knife edge the crank?

Should we phrase it like this? :

Knife edging the crank on your street engine is like taking money and throwing it out out your car window.

some would say knife edging doesnt leave enough coutnerwieght mass to pull the piston back down into the hole but ive never tested it personally so i wont chisel it into this HT stone we all live and die by.

With a light enough rod/piston combo, that wouldn't be so much of an issue.

And BTW...
