Default How effective is an alarm LED light indicator?

I'm thinking of whether or not I should put one if there is no use for it. It either scares theives away or it attracts attention. Which is it?

It just tells a theif theres is a alarm. Might scare a rookie but no hard core one. I really don't use them. Lrt them find out the hard way

My CRX was broken into a few months back. The thieves took the HU, Sub and parking pass for the college. They didn't touch the CDs, school books (which could be resold for more than the stereo was worth) or the Amp (couldn't get it most likely). There's been several Honda's broken into and stolen in my area. As soon as I got an alarm, it's been left alone while other people are being hit repeatedly. A deterrent of any kind is helpful IMO.

Most thieves are looking for an easy target. You want them to know you have an alarm ASAP. It might save you a broken window. Other thieves are targeting your car specifically and in that case an LED isn't going to matter.

Just find a pop out panel and drill a little hole for the LED.

Here's a hypothetical - You have two identical hatches next to you, one with a flashing led, one without. Which one would you target for a quick theft?

I consider it an attention getter, and like others said, will stop most rookie thieves. That being said, don't just add an led to your car, make sure you have an larm too

I got a better one. Many moons ago when me and my wife started dating...I spent the night at her place. It was a townhome style apartment development (all the garages/carports were on the rear and shared a common alleyway). It was a severe thunderstorm that night...some sleaze(s) hit 60 cars that night!!!
The only ones that were safe or untouched were those with alarms (leds visable)-They hit almost all of the homes on that side of the complex. And it wasn't like it was a bad area either. Both of our cars had alarms and my wife left her faceplate on and left my alpine video monitor open (she took my car out that night-it was girls night out-my car has navigation) - they bypassed both.

Now theives are not as stupid as we think...they used a storm to cover thier dirt, but were smart enough not to bother cars that could uncover the acts.
Just a thought.
