Default Chatterbox alternative, sort of?

I saw recently in some Motorcycle magazine a wireless Chatterbox type of thing. I've been very fed-up with my Chatterbox, as the wire between the student's headset and my main unit is always loose, resulting in a very poor connection and thus shoddy communication. I had to rely entirely on hand signals for the last two events because of it (though I honestly kind of prefer that). I know this thing would be harder to deal with in terms of students (maybe...the student's headset is mounted to the helmet, not a slip-in thing like I'm used to, but it also says it can be clipped to a belt), but it would at least forego the wiring hassles.

The first one is the one I saw, the second looks similar:

Crud, really? Well, I'm glad I didn't go ahead and blow the money already then.

Nah, you would not want that setup. Those are designed to be permanately mounted to the helmet. And they have wires coming out of the unit into the helmet, so you really wouldn't gain much. Plus, you would spend 300-400 bucks for 2 of them!

I would just stick with a NADY. Used mine for the last 3 years now and it's finally time to buy a new one.

I have used both. The Chatterbox I always had issues with. Adam, I'm sure you remember how shitty mine was when I instructed for you at VIR in 2004. I forgot mine once and borrowed a NADY, I couldn't have been happier with it. I plan to get a new one for future events.

thats just an FRS, would work I guess but its pretty bulky and not really ideal (and its PTT not full duplex)

Ive used everything from cheap ebay, Nady and Chatterbox. Chatterbox is by far the best (isnt saying much though)
Always ask your student not to yank the cord or the mic to get the headset out. The best way is to take off the helmet and the headset will fall out without stressing the cord.
