Unusual Anniversary
This month, December 2006, marks the official expiration of my Acura extended warranty.
The strangest thing replaced under warranty was probably the replacement of the rear hatch struts, with technicians openly noticing that the car had shoe polish on the glass and blue tape residue on the doors.

If they only knew.

Yeh, it's got some big cracks in the door panels. Never saw anything like it due to normal wear and tear.

I think it just had the coverd Autopower bar at the time. Still had full interior, too.
Whatever was visibly done to the car at the time, it didn't have much to do with the hatch struts. As I recall, it ended up being kind of a good time for everybody, joking about it.

You know, I really don't remember. It was in the purchase price. Len might be able to find out, because the car came from Baranco in December 1999.
It seemed expensive, but in those days 200 HP out of a 1.8 litre car was a LOT, and I just wanted some extra protection.
When I got the car, it was to have been used as a fun commuter car. And it was.

When I purchased my car in April of this year, the owner had a extended transferable warranty on the car. Mine expires in January 2008 or 110k miles. Haven't had to use it yet but I will make sure to have it checked out before it expires.

I don't think there's much left that hasn't been replaced for some reason or another.

I think they charge just to take a look at it. I still have the extended warranty on my R but it ends soon. I wanted to have my car checked but they said they'd charge and then if there's a problem they charge to diagnose it. Anyone else heard of this? I mean I understand if they have to charge a fee but over $100 to just check things out. I think that's a bit much. I'm going to bring my R over to my mechanic to make a final inspection before the warranty expires.

If you don't have any real complaint, but you want to make sure everything is OK, then they are going to charge you.
If you have the extended warranty, they are not going to charge you for fixing something that involves a complaint associated with an item that is covered by the warranty.
I do not think it is a good idea to show up at the service department with shoe polish, blue tape and a roll cage unless you have a good relationship with the personnel and they already know that you are NOT there to take advantage of them.

There was a very minor to-do at Pohanka early in the car's life, but Acura more than made up for the problem.
No one ever tried to void the warranty, but there was probably also an inherent understanding that as the years wore on there would be relatively little on the car that would be covered by the warranty, and that I understood that.
The hatch struts were probably the only thing on the car that had been untouched by modifications one way or another!!
The service departments at Crown in Richmond, and Radley in Baileys Crossroads and Woodbridge have all been great, as has the parts department and support staff at Barranco.

I live right across the street from Pohanka! One of the techs there is a friend of mine.
