Default Low seat rails - Safety in question (JDM Recaros)

I like my Recaros as far as support and comfort but I find that being 6'2" tall, I get the short end of the stick when it comes to seating position.
The seat sits rather high which in part makes me feel disconnected from the car, to make things worse I keep touching the steering wheel w/ my legs. Shifter seems little more out of reach then before, which kind of sucks as well.
The only solution I found that is decently priced is the Vision One Touch Seat slider. Seat rails offers about 50mm(2") drop in height which is going to definatly improve and restore some feeling back. But I am worried that the rails simply lack the safety for street use, as there is only one side that simply locks and that prevents the seat from sliding forward in case of sudden deaccelaration, this worries me. Even Vision Japan states that product is for off-road use only and not to be used on street! Any insight or recommendations?

I don't really see much of anything that would be bad except for maybe the seat sliding forward on its own... but if your in an accident it shouldn't be much of a problem as long as you wear your SEATBELT! lol But maybe I'm wrong who knows! haha

I would love me some of those... I'm SIX foot SIX... think how I feel in my little GSR... hope I don't roll over....

I dont know the answer to your question but I wish there was a way to modify my USDM ITR seat to sit lower or Low Seat Rails like above that can swap over.

I'm also 6'5" high , but i look also at lower seatrails.

But does fit these rails on our OEM Recaro's?
And are there more kinds off lower seatrails on the market?

i'm 6'3" and find the driving position with the recaro's absolutely perfect

i wouldn't change any of it for anything

besides, i've got a harness mounting "eye" bolt attached in the normal seat belt hole right by the tunnel in the centre, and if i lowered the seat anymore it wouldnt fit

Have you ever worn a helmet in your R ? Cause I hit the roof and I´m "only" 6'1.

And I´d like to know too about the safety of these seatrails so if someone here uses them please give a statement

I have those seat tracks and I trust these more than my old tracks with the recaros. They are thicker steel and seem to hold the seat tighter. I am 6-2 and I love the height and feel of these rails. Just lube them really well when you install them.

sounds like some of you have longer torsos and some with longer legs.

I vote custom if you can't find a definitive answer or example. It's what I did albeit on a different seat and I'm shorter than all of you.

this post is sort of OT. if it is, feel free to remove it...

after driving in my USDM ITR seat for over 5 years and then switching to the JDM ITR Recaro about 2 weeks ago, i can say that there is definitely a noticeable difference in seat height, feel, and position.

however, it must be taken into consideration that this difference may be because of the difference in bolstering, as well as the place where the seats pivot/recline. the foam bolstering on the Recaro, as everyone knows, is much higher and more apparent than the "bolster" of its USDM ITR/GS-R counterpart.

i noticed that the bolstering on the seatback/upper reclining portion of the seat pushes my shoulders forward (almost just as a harder, non-reclineable bucket seat would), thereby making me feel like i have to sit more "forward" and closer to the wheel. the bolsters on the actual "seat portion" of the seat conform to my body and fit more "snugly" than that part of the USDM ITR seat does. i'm not a skinny guy, so my fata$s is probably sitting higher in the JDM ITR Recaro than a skinnier person does, or at least it feels like i'm sitting "higher."

i haven't actually looked up the comparative specifications on the dimensions and/or height of the two seats, but i think that the JDM ITR Recaro sits a little bit higher than the USDM ITR/GS-R seat.

the JDM ITR seat is great for "spirited" driving, but it's not very conducive towards comfort on long-distance drives. i drove to San Diego from LA for a family Christmas party, and my back was not having very much fun when i got out of my car, haha. the USDM ITR seats are much more comfortable for long-distance drives, and offer much more freedom and range of movement for normal, city/point A - to - point B driving.

i've was thinking about selling my USDM ITR seats, but lately i've been having second thoughts about that because i take occasional road trips to places that are 4, 6, and even 8 hours away (if you're reading this: my bad Armando, but i might keep them!)...

okay, enough blabbing from me. to make a long-story short: having custom seat rails fabricated is probably the best solution for taller ITR owners/drivers that require the extra room, especially to accomodate a helmet at the track...
