DIY Amber climate control with Real 99-00 civic si cluster?
I am posting this in regards to BauleyCivic 's write up and this write up: https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1
I have a 2000 Civic EX and recently lucked out buying a Civic Si cluster off craigslist for $25 + my EX cluster. Anyway, I wanted a climate control with lights the same color as my Si Cluster so that it all blends in color-wise. So, i'm just letting everyone know that the Testors Competition Orange paint gives the climate control almost the same color as the 99-00 Civic si cluster, just has a little hint of red to the overall color. Initially, I put 5 coats of Testors competition orange on my bulbs (2 behind the climate control buttons, 2 behind the rear defogger / AC buttons, and 1 behind the cruise control button). If you want to save money and get the Si look, don't buy the whole si climate control, just buy the Testors 1628 Competition / gloss orange paint at Michael's Arts and crafts and paint the bulbs. The can is only $3.79. It took me forever at Michael's to find the paint but to save you all time, just ask the store clerk or search for the "car model kits" at Michael's and there will be a rack of Testors enamel spray paint. Hope this helps you all out.

True, as the paint fades and eventually begins to look pink..... ask me how I know...

except a bit more expensive cause each bulb costs as much as 1 can of paint. well, at least I can reuse the orange sleeves if the bulbs go out. but I've seen several people with painted bulbs and they turn out well. didn't think about the paint fading tho.

Yep, and if I had thought about it I would've spent an extra $20 on bulbs and been done with it... hindsight etc...etc

Where do you buy the orange sleeves at? How much are they? I was trying to find some so I bought the can of paint.
most shops that sell OEM honda parts will have them. I'll you get the part number when I get home. basically I ordered the bulbs that replace the lower part of the climate control (where the AC & defrost buttons are) for the Si and those have the sleeves.
