Default Anyone do carbon fiber/kevlar work?

I need an overlay done for my '93 Civic Coupe to cover my sunroof hole. I don't want to just fill the sunroof hole; I want a full overlay. If I wanted to just fill the hole, the LighterFaster unit would have been a perfect solution.

Compositesfab may do one, but not anytime soon. Let me know, thanks.

Are you going to remove the factory sunroof? If so, what do you want different than the lighterfaster one? I've installed a few of the lighterfaster.com plus and the fitment is great.

I am with Tony onthis one. Mine fit great. You might consider having someone make a sheetmetal plug and getting it welded in then bondo/paint.

The LighterFaster piece is an option... I would rather just "re-skin" the roof with a piece like:

That's CompositeFab's unit for '94-01 Integras. I doubt they will be releasing a skin for Coupes anytime soon.

I would be willing to bet that Lighter Faster will make one with proper measurements.

I ordered my Sunroof plug from them and I am anxiously awaiting it's arrival!

I'd like to say, I have personally put one of those on an Integra, and it looks amazing.

Good luck on your search.

Thanks for your input. They do look really nice.

BMW thinks so, too. The new M6's roof is 100% carbon fiber. Not that mine would be 100%, I'd just be a poser... but it'd seal the sunroof area off nicely.

Is that roof legal in SFWD? Surely not.

why? doesnt it just cover the stock roof?

i thought SFWD allowed plugs? if they allow plugs, why not a cover

no, that actually takes place of the roofskin itself, i was thinking about this, i dont see why it is not legal.

It takes place of the roofskin, or just goes over it?

Unless it completely replaces the metal, that looks like a waste of weight in a bad spot for some bling status....

i thought it just goes over it.. Cant understand how the **** it would go on if it replaces the metal roofskin..

If that was the case, then i guess i would understand why its not sfwd legal...

anyways

it takes place of it from what i understand, the roof skin is just a sheet of metal, just like this is a sheet of fiber, its all just glued/seamsealed in, and factory spot welded which is N/A for this application
they have no saftey at all, its not a structure member, but i guess NHRA consideres it significant weight reduction

ive seen the plug on tonys car and its seems like a fine peice to me. in my opinion the only other option if you were just going to cover the hole would be get a non-EX roof skin from honda and replace it with that.

I had the impression that the kevlar roof skin went on top of the roof!

any ways, whats wrong with the roof plug it serves its purpose and also can be modified to be removable!

if the kevlar skin replaces the metal of the roof i think that nhra will not allow it!

The roof skin that Hybridkoop posted does not replace the roof, its just a cap that goes over the stock sheetmetal.

Exactly. It seals the sunroof shut (and the rest of the roof) by sealing underneath the factory moldings on all four sides.

I think that would be pretty cool if someone made one that fit really well.

Definitley. I can't believe how heavy my sunroof assembly is/was. It was a struggle to throw it 15 feet across the garage after it broke on me and sliced my fingers open
