B16a with PCT pistons. I don't think I will need balancing. Or do I?

Default B16a with PCT pistons. I don't think I will need balancing. Or do I?

Well, I found out that the PR3 piston in my B16a weighs 299 grams. Okay, but I would imagine that the PCT piston weighs roughly 310 grams.

Great! Since we have to shave the rod (on the piston pin end) so that it fits the PCT piston, it will level out so that the rotating assembly will not need balancing.

I hope that everyone sees what I am saying here.

Is this assumption wrong? However, I would need to know how much a PCT piston weighs. And then, you'll end up getting into a situation where the PCT wristpin weighs more or less than the PR3 piston.

What do ya'll think?

Okay, I found out that the PCT piston weighs 11.6 ounces, which is 328 grams. Okay, so I was off by only 18 grams, not that bad. LOL

But what gets me is that i'm almost positive that I can shave off 28 grams from the connecting rod when I try to make it fit the PCT piston.

Is this a common assumption, or is this some sort of new sh#t that sounds better than it really is?

As far as I know of balancing is not required for pcts in a b16a.

Also, if you are going with that combo, shave the piston not the rod.

I'm talkin' about shaving the small end of the rod, which is necessary for it to fit the PCT wristpin bosses.

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. Thus, why I said make the piston fit the rod not vice-versa.

Think about it, the heaviest piston on the smallest rod end.

I see what you're saying, but it seems like it would be a whole lot easier to machine on the rod versus the piston when making it fit.

Yeah, I know what I'm saying is more complicated/expensive but that is the recommended way of doing that set-up.

Your method would really be the way to go, and I honestly mean that. However, is there enough material on the wristpin bosses for 28 grams of removal?

Don't worry, the machinist should balance the pistons with +/-1 gram.

I'm referring to the strength of the OEM piston after 28 grams is removed from the wrist pin bosses.

Just because the parts weigh the same doesnt mean the engine will remain balanced. The pistons arent sitting still while the engine is running. WHERE the weight is distributed over the area of the piston has alot to do with balancing.

Think about it like this. You have 2 identical weighted cars @ 2000lbs. One with a 50/50 front to rear weight dist. one with 90/10. They both weigh the same, but wont the 90/10 car want to "behave" differently when under accelleration?

how much would a je piston basically weigh?nevermind found it.PCT's are heavy!?!Wouldn'i a flywheel affect weight distribution though?
