Towing with 2002 Acura MDX
Can anyone recommend a site to research towing with the MDX. I am interested in installing a hitch and using the MDX to pull a boat and/or a horse trailer. I would assume that Acura makes or endorses a hitch and may also have a brake system for after market.
Have you checked your owner's manual? That will have all the relative towing information.
I'm sure the MDX has not changed, so here's the info from my manual ('06):
Towing capacity: The OEM hitch is rated at 3500lbs with a trailer and 4500lbs with a weight distribution trailer.
Purchasing an aftermarket hitch keeps you at a 3500lb limit because, from what I have heard, the aftermarket units do not utilize a few of the mounting points to the vehicle.
I believe the Acura MDX forum will have better/more-detailed information.
The ratings are also rated if you have the power steering and transmission coolers installed.
