Default Nausiatingly specific description

I'm sure that this problem is or if it will require a special solution but since I'm not sure of it I will attempt describing it.

It's a 1999 Honda Accord 4 door Automatic 4cyl.
It has a little over 100,000 miles and the best part is ..... it's paid off !!!
The bad part is when I shift from reverse to forward I need to wait patiently with my foot on the brake for the shifting to take effect. That doesn't bother me especially since I've read that the wait is debatably normal. I don't believe it since that would make my car the only one I know of to fix itself but I digress.

The problem I DO have is when I'm accelerating from 0 as it's shifting into the next gear it winds high and kicks in hard. I have enough fluid in it for sure. More than I should I'd wager seeing as the level is about an inch above full. That ain't the problem. Bathing the gears in a cascade if fresh fluid actually fixed it for about a half hour but then it was back to feeling like I was being love tapped by a tardy commuter every time I got started moving.

The other (possibly related) problem/symptom is that when I come to a complete stop I need to wait for my car to understand my intentions to do so. When I do stop I feel what is almost like the exact opposite of when I start. I feel like someone is bumping me. It feels like my transmission can't get back out of the one low gear it has trouble getting into until 1-2 seconds after my car has stopped.

If it's just the matter of a flush I'd be happy to hear it but if I have change the *glorp* I don't even want to say it.

Sorry if that was a bit long winded.

Sounds like your transmission has gone south and it's time for a rebuild. What you described has happened to quite a few us already.

you'll probably end up needing a rebuilt tranny unfortunately.

the kicking hard might be a solenoid. similar symptoms happened to me before in my 98 saturn sl2, and the stealership charged $400.

take it to the dealer. Honda has replaced an awful lot of transmission on 6th gens and they may give you some "goodwill consideration"

I've never heard of them doing it for a 4-cyl auto before... but it doesn't hurt to try.

This may be a patronizing question, but... Do you have Honda ATF in there? You really do need to use the Honda branded stuff, and I should know. A second-rate shop filled my tranny with generic fluid, and it surged on the 3-2 shift and stuff. With the Honda ATF it's been shifting much smoother.

Man... I wish I knew what your friend said to get them to do it. None of the dealerships here in Houston would even think about doing it for me. Even the dealership I used to work at couldn't do it for me, and they take care of a lot of stuff for me. Or maybe I just need to move to Maryland...
