Time to start thinking
Ok so I start my "real" job in September, thankful to be graduating from college. I'm a accounting major and I already know my signing bonus and startign salary.
I gotta start thinking about what car to buy as a daily because I don't wanna be putting 50+ miles on the R everyday. Im not your typical person who wants reliability outta my daily, I have the R, if the other car breaks I will drive the R for a while. But regardless the Type R is my baby, even if I could afford a Ferrari Enzo, the R would be the one in the garage, and I would DD the Enzo.
I still want a fast, fun car as a DD, yet something I can modify and work on. I was thinking maybe some American Muscle, but I also kinda have a thing for STI's and Evo MR's.
I will probably get something used....maybe even buy an R shell and build a 2 liter race R as my DD...no joke lol
But you guys have any thoughts? I know its my decision, just kinda like hearing what all of you think.
Heres options:
2 liter Race ITR
EVO
STI
M3
G35
Z
Camaro
Any other reasonably priced ideas feel free to throw out there.

Ill speak from experience. Dont start shopping until you get about 3 months of pay. September is so far out anything can happen. Also depending on how much you make, the cars mentioned maybe a tad out of budget. You need to see how much you will actually be bringing home (net pay).

So many from which to choose
I really like the new 350Z, but having lived in MD recently, I noticed they are EVERYWHERE down there. Same is happening with the G35. You'd be one of many. In the Z line, I'd rather have an early 90s 300ZX with a fresh minty paint job.
As far as American muscle, the only ones I'd consider are from the 60s-early 70s. And those will set you back a pretty penny for a working condition car. Although I do kinda like the new retro-look Mustangs. I've driven the new GT with 300hp, they're fun
Hands down, I like the EVO VIII or IX over the STI, just based on looks.
M3s are great when they are working. If you got one, you'd definitely want to keep the R street legal.
Also think, there are alot of old NSXs that are selling in the $30k range, a couple even under $30k.
Bottom line, for me my DD choice would be an EVO cause I do have to move people regularly. If you can get away with a 2-seater, you have some great choices out there.

You live in MD so wintery weather is annually.
I would go for something like a WRX automatic so you can relax in daily traffic and never get stuck in snowstorm. Now you are young so you do not mind having manual trans, but 20 yrs later, you want a piece of mind in commuting. Don't get me wrong, I love my R but it does feel annoying sometimes if you can not open it up.

Honestly, I say EVO... 4-Door, great torque, very reliable, pretty quick, great aesthetics, AWD for those Shitty days, and still fun as Hell to drive.
If I had the money, I'd DEFINATELY have one as my daily.

I got one and it's great! Never a problem, 33mpg, seats4, cops over look it all the time, and Will beat any STi or Evo (that are stock or mild)
Would not recommend it for track use, needs too much.
I could care less about weather, it chomps right thru as if is was dry out.
05WRX 4EAT = Winner for DD
Did I mention that the aftermarket world is wonderfull for WRXs? and working on them is easy, not honda easy, but easy.

good information guys. You are right about Maryland, there are Z's and G35's EVERYWHERE. so thats probably a no go, plus I like some other cars more.
Lol, the 2002 Z28 camaros are really easy to work on and turn out great power if your looking for a drag car though haha, a good friend owns one, its pretty fun to drive.
I'm not really a big BMW guy. I fully respect the M3's, but I don't really think I am old enough for that crowd yet.
I would love an NSX, but yes I am really tall and I would totally be inclined to twin turbo it or something and probably get in debt haha.
That leaves a most likely choice of STI or Evo. But from what you all keep telling me, the Evo is the way to go. I might have to start doign some more research on them.
Migs, good call on the money thing. I already know my starting salary, so I wont get carried away on cars haha, I wanna house to. I was going to wait to buy another car until I had about 2 months of pay under my belt and go frm there. Im startign to think Evo now......hmmm

lol yea I was thinking about that while I was typing. I mean you can't really go wrong with a Evo. Its AWD, easy to modify, handles great, plenty of power, and still looks pretty hott. hmmm what about a used Viper...lol

Just get another R... two is better than one.
For example
That nice girl in MN has one for sale with low miles for under 14K.

get something somewhat classy and comfortable. Victor suggested a TSX, which would be a great DD and when you pull into work with the older crowd, it makes you look more professional. Then on special days drive the banana to work
I'd actually recommend an older model (2001-2003) S2K - they run for about 18-21k here in CA. They have great suspension, you can have the top down on sunny days/hard top on rainy. Gets great mileage and resale value for it is great compared to a Mitsu or a Subuaru- If you were planning to get something better in the future. Personally, I feel the car looks great and you can mod it without worrying much about punks trying to steal it.

Good call I didn't think about the TSX, it is a very flashy car. Of course I didn't think about the S2K either, I would throw a turbo on it though lol....
