Its weighted so it gives a leverage feel there for smoother shifts due to the effortless entry into the next gear due to the added weight i am getting my skunk2 weighted shift **** very soon i cant wait !

From TWM's faq

5. What is the advantage of having a TWM shift **** on my short shifter?

Because the **** weighs over 500 grams it acts as a counterweight for the shift lever. This added weight at the top of the shifter reduces the amount of effort needed to shift.

personally i'm going with circuithero.. they are over a lb!

it's pretty simple and straight forward. I'll take a pic or two later on to show you the finish product.

Here's the install guide for the short shifter/bushing and console removal.

http://www.newcelica.org/other...x.htm

A weighted shift **** makes shifting so much easier & precise. It require very little effort to shift and it goes into gear without any troubles at all. The bushing makes it even better because you don't feel that rubbery bounce when you shift or push left / right on the shifter.

the install is so easy.

i installed my comptech SS, and it took 30 minutes only because the screw fell into my center console...

weighted shift ***** make it easier to shift

What does adding the bushing do vs. say...the comptech ss? Is it worth it?

i think he means does the bushings add to the setup since both the comptech & twm are similar short shifters.

Right, seems like the difference is that one comes with this "bushing." Basically, what does this do?

the metal bushing replace the stock rubber ones. the different is huge.

normally when you push left & right on the shifter, you can feel the springy/rubbery bounce with the stock bushing. Once the metal bushing installed, no more spring/bounce back. it feels a lot more clear & precise when you shift.

it's kinda of hard to explain but everything just feels so much more clean/crisp/precise now. no more freeplay on the shifter.

add that with the short shifter, and the weighted shift ****, & since the shift **** is countersink, the shifter is shorter than stock.

the car is so much more enjoyable to drive & shift.

I had to put the height adjuster in (to lengthen the shifter) because the shift **** goes much lower than stock.

The difference probably won't be as dramatic on the si, but I'm still interested. How much is a good price for the ss/bushing?

SS/bushings should run up that much of a bill, mine, with shipping, was a grand total of....$115.

I just mean that the OP did his install on a DX. Since the si already has a much better feel in shifts than the DX, I'm sure the difference is even *greater* for him

<<<< Hmmm... I don't about all that, ever since I've been on this site all I've heard about were problems with the shifting in the Si when it came to 2nd and 3rd gear... never heard anything bad about the 5 spd tranny..... and just because it's not an Si doesn't mean the quality of the product is absolute crap.

No not at all! Who knew I was about to get flamed for this =P

I just mean that the close-ratio feel and I guess the gearbox itself, in general, feel better in the si (vs. the EX I've driven also, in particular). Either way, I guess the idea here is that this is a great upgrade for either model

.....Okay, gotcha, yeah, I agree, wonderful upgrade, and I see what you mean about the gear ratio... Makes sense.

Default TWM bushings

hold on now...the bushings did not make that big of a difference. I drove around with the short shifter for a while before adding the bushings and it made the biggest difference. The bushings just made a slight difference...have you actually seen these rubber mounts...its not as squishy as everyone is making it out to be...and on top of that there are metal inserts going into the rubber! If you already have the comptech ss your not going to dramatically see some amazing thing in the feel of the shift with the bushings. I should post pics of these rubber bushings with the metal insert...and how it is held in the shifter. On top of that the bolts that are holding in these rubber bushings are put in soo tight (factory torque) that the rubber wouldnt have a chance to go anywhere. I was thinking that the rubber was possibly for reducing vibration within the shifter...IMO.
