Default ~~~~~~new wheels needs tires??~~~~~~~

just got some gt3 from rota. not the best but cool prices for a daily driver. gots these in 16s dont really know what tires to get and what size. its going on a ej1 with about 2-3 inche drop thinking about somes 205/40/16s. anyone got any suggesstion or pictures of the same size wheels. btw it comes with a 40 offset dont really know if its good or not. if anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys. oh yeah my early christmas present from the wife. hehe

Yes, 205/40-16 is the best 16" size for your '92-95 Civic.

I assume from your location that you don't drive in snow, so you don't need all-season tires. I also assume from your mention of daily driving that you are interested in a tire that has decent treadlife, in addition to good performance, of course.

I recommend the Kumho Ecsta SPT. It's a great all-around tire - very good traction on dry pavement, excellent in rain, lasts a reasonably long time, and has a bargain price. In 205/40-16, it's $69/tire at the Tire Rack. If you get them this week, don't forget to send for your $40 rebate (offer expires a week from today).

i would personally go with 205/45/r16 because 40 profile is too thin for my case...but it depends on you though!

IT DEPENDS ON THE CAR.

For your GS-R, 205/45-16 is fine, and 205/40-16 is too small.

For his '92-95 Civic, 205/40-16 is fine, and 205/45-16 is too big.

i think im going for the 205/40s i went to one of my boys body shcp and guess what he had an ej1 he was working on for a customer. had some jmag from rotas in 16s as well with same offset. nicely drop and nicely attractive and clean. had the same tires also Kumho Ecsta SPT 205/40/16 and that sucker looked nice and clean. so i thank you all for your advise.

Depending on how low you are, you may need to go a size lower than what your car needs (as Nsxtasy reccomended) to avoid rubbing, etc... at the expense of speedometer accuracy, that is.

As long as your wheels are the proper offset, that is extremely rare. I've seen a lot of cars lowered 1.5 inches, 2 inches, and more, that still used tires with the stock outer diameter.

And if your wheels are the wrong offset, then get the right wheels for your car (instead of trying to fix one mistake by making a second one).

I don't see how you find it rare. Most ek guys or ek's that I've seen in A/C aren't running the correct 195-55 15, but the average 195-50 15. Hell, there was a guy in a thread with a lowered EF running 195-45 15s.

It's all a matter of choice, and I think lots of people would prefer to give up 1 or 2 percent speedometer accuracy to have the right tire for their application.

Apparently you have a problem with reading comprehension, so I'll say it again: It's rare that undersized tires are <FONT SIZE="large">needed</FONT>. I'm sure you're correct, that there are also plenty of people running around with the wrong size tires on their cars because some idiot who doesn't know jack about tires told them to do so. There may be plenty of people using 195/50-15, with the wrong idea that it's better for their car, but I guarantee you that almost all of them could use 195/55-15 or 205/50-15 without any problems whatsoever, and without any need to put up with the problems of undersized tires.

I've seen lots of people all over the place with the wrong sized tires. I've seen people with EK's running oversized 195/60-15 or 205/55-15 as well as undersized 195/50-15 or 195/45-15. People will run anything, usually because some idiot at a tire store or on an internet board told them it would be okay (and that's usually so that person could sell them the wrong sized tire and get their money). That doesn't make it the best size tire for their car. And it certainly doesn't mean that they <FONT SIZE="large">needed</FONT> to use the wrong size tire.

Nice job of explaining why the right tire for an EK is 195/55-15 (0 percent error) or maybe the "1 or 2 percent" error of 205/50-15 (1.6 percent), rather than the undersized 195/50-15 (3.3 percent error).

absolutely correct nsxtasy....and i would like to also add that most of there friends run the incorrect size as well and they see it and do it
