any opinions?

also, i flipped the head over and this part fell out...anyone know what it is or where it goes?

yeah i was doin som e reading, supertech is lookin goo dbut expensive, and ferrea is seeming to have a reeeaallly good rep for high rpm race motors (although this motor is going to be hard limited to 9k rpm).
any more input on valves?

supertech's are generally cheaper than Ferrea's and are more widely used. There is no way to say if you need new valves without having them out. Take it to your machine shop and have them take a look at them. You really cannot beat the OEM honda valve, you could look into getting a new set of honda valves too.

im doing all the work myself, after a huge foul up by my machine shop when i was layed up and couldnt do the work myself. the onlly issue is ive seen stock valves bend when living at high rpms (and they are also more expensive than a set of ferreas i believe. can supertechs be had for less than 180 a set? i havent been able to find a good source for some reason.

NO.
my motor puts down 215whp on stock valves.

if the head has high mileage you may want to have the valve guides replaced. i have found most honda valve guides wear out fast i had a set replaced with only 36k miles. this was a high reving motor.

well i was really thinking about using the original valves (they had 115k on them). but when i opened the head up and got everything out the valve heads are pretty corroded, and have a very orange rust type sybstance all over them which i dont like. i have enough into this build that i might as well do it right and spend another 180 to get some fresh valves...doesnt make sense to cheap out at this point.

I wonder if you coulda made 5 more peak HP with some valves that are "slimmed down" after the guide portion.

Whats weird, is that oem itr valves have the thinner stems after the guide. But Larry @ endyn says his b-series testing revealed no increase in flow with that....but there is an increase on a d-series.

i had thought about using ITR valves but figured the gains would be negligable. i was just responding to the guy saying you NEEDED aftermarket valves for 200+. but i build my engine to HC specs anyway, valves are unrestricted in H1, but not size or material so i just played it safe and stuck to OEM gsr valve that i already had.

thats just carbon build up..........take it to your machine shop they can clean those up and make them look like new.
honda valves are pretty good as is unless you bend or burnn them.....

this is all a learning experience since my honda is my toy racer anyway...if it dies i build it again.
