Mugen N1 ECU mounting
First and foremost, I want to applaud Mario for a very professional transaction.
He's a competent seller: goods were as promised and excellent follow up.
Onto my question: How have people mounted their Mugen N1 ECU's in their 00 and 01 DC2s?
From what I have found it seems like you need the bracket off of a 96 to 98 DC2 to mount the larger ECU correctly. However the part numbers for the cover and bracket for the 96 to 98 are the same as a 00 to 01.
37821-P72-A00 COVER, ENGINE CONTROL MODULE HARNESS
64133-SR3-A00ZZ BRACKET, ENGINE CONTROL MODULE
Does anybody have any experience with this issue?
I'm not sure how to get the wiring loom under the cover again due to the bulk of the wires and OBD2b to OBD2a harness adapter.
Finally, has anybody plugged an OBD2 scan tool into a '00 or '01 ITR with the Mugen ECU in place? What does it read out? Are there any sensors it doesn't check for vs a regular OBD2b ECU? From what I could gather, the OBD2a and OBD2b ECUs all check for the same thing, the only thing that differs is the pin outs.
I ordered the parts from Baranco so hopefully if Len stumbles upon this thread, he can provide some assistance.
Thanks all for any input.

when i took my 00 ECU out to put the P28 in they were the same size? there shouldnt be any sizing issues at all...
...and the conversion harness, yes what a pain THAT was to fit in. its very difficult to describe, but you have to try and squish the wires round to the side of the ECU and get the kickplate back on. i did manage it, but its an interested mental exercise for a few minutes

Same here. I installed a JUN ECU on my R and it was a straight swap. The only hassle was accomodating the extra wiring from the conversion harness so that the kickpanel would fit back. It takes a bit of struggling but it is really not a big problem.
The Mugen N1 ECU is definitely larger than the stock P73.
Mugen Part number: 37820-XH4-0000-B2
THe panel could probably wrestled back on, as of right now the cover can't bolt back on so the bottom most fastener for the panel won't be used.
Anybody else out there with experience with this ECU?

Let me clarify.. Yes, the Mugen, JUN, and the likes are in fact longer than a USDM ECU. Think of it as a longer rectangle-shaped box. However, the mounting bolts will align correctly to either box. The hassle remains in the wiring. Trust me, with a little patience and care, you should be able to fit everything up behind the kick panel.
Big Phat R mentions in this thread the use of a the 98 brackets to make mounting easier... But the part numbers are still identical?
