Default PLEASE HELP, I'M STRANDED!!! Toda gsr NEED to get home!!!

On my way home tonight, Sunday night, 5/12/02 at 10:30 pm, cruzing with cruise control set at 70mph and all of a sudden the car starts losing power the brake pedal goes stiff and I cut it off, and I let it drift to a stop. After it stopped it would barely start up, it started up so I don't think its the timing belt, but the rpm's won't go up past fluctuating and dying at 1000rpms even if you press the gas. And now after about 4 times of weakly starting up, it won't start at all. I have gas, I'm getting a spark from the spark plug wires, I wasn't getting a check engine light; I'm Stranded 3 hours away from home, at my parents house in Spartanburg, SC, and I need to get home to Charleston ASAP, I'm supposed to be a work at 9:15 monday morning...LOL...anyhow its 1:45am Monday morning, PLEASE HELP ME!!!! By the way I have everything in my signature.

EDIT: I can skip out on work, I just need to have this fixed BY sometime Monday night, my girl friend starts her summer classes at the College of Charleston starting Tuesday morning. PLEASE Help US!!!

Did you check your cam gears? Did they slip?

I haven't been able to take off the valve cover to check the gears or the timing belt, I took off the two bolts on the gear/belt cover, must I take off the valve cover also to expose the sides of the cam gears and belt? Yes I have a ripped off version of the skunk2 program, didn't know it until i got it from some lamo, anyhow I still have my obd2 ecu however R&D did the OBD1 conversion as well as the VAFC install, I'm not sure what exactly I'd be messing with, so far it sounds like either I'm not getting fuel, its electrical, or I'm not getting compression.
EDIT: Could be the alternator; however, when we tried to jump the car, it still wouldn't turn over, it almost would again, but just couldn't make it, so if it were the alternator my car would run off the battery til it died, so I don't think its it.

VAFC connections soldered or crimped? Check that.
Cat broke up and plugged exhaust? Hear any rattles in the cat?

What did it sound like when it died? Pull the cam cover off and check your timing belt and cam gears.

The VAFC connections are soldered, the header did come slightly loose from the Cat Sat. (night after tall the runs at the dragstrip}, however I tightened them back up(no more rattles), do I need to pull the valvecover off to get the plastic piece cover the sides of the cam gears? And how will I be able to tell if anything slipped?, doubt they slipped they are Toda.
EDIT: "What did it sound like when it died?"
It didn't sound like anything, no banging no loud ticking, it just started loosing power, like it wasn't getting gas, it just died the brake pedal locked up and I coasted.

I doubt your car will be ready by tomorow night unless its merely cam gear slippage.

Yes, pull the cam cover (2 min work) Check spark plugs while your at it.

Even thought they are Toda gears, the bolts can slip if they aren't properly tightened. (I'm not thinking the gears slipped though) You should try to describe what happened better for someone to help.

What happened: My girl friend and I were happily on our way back home, cruising at 70mph, and the car just started loosing power, like it was out of gas, the pedal locked up and I drifted onto the emergency lane, 50 min later, AAA sent a tow truck, I inspected what I could, and here I am. So again, I MUST take off the valve cover, to remove the little black side cover that covers up the sides of the cam gears?...correct?...So what if the cam gears did slip, what can I do to fix it?

if they slipped, take an allen wrench, set them to 0 and tighten the bolts up. that should hold ya till you get some time for tuning

sounds like a timing belt problem, ie, it broke.

Thing is I know toda's can snap brand new timing belts like mine; however I have confidence R&D installed the very well, and would the car have restarted four times if the timing belt had broke? One senario, on the way home tonight it began to break and slip, it restarted because it hadn't broken all the way; however, after the four times of barely restarting it gave way completely. I guess I'll pull the valve cover off in the morning, do I need to worry about the gasket when putting it back on?
EDIT: AGAIN by RESTART, I mean BARELY restarting, simply staying alive for 10 seconds and dying like its not getting fuel, I could press the gas but the rpms wouldn't move at all...

easy way to check if you can see the cam gears.
turn the crank by hand and see if the gears move.

Yes, and pay close attention to the teeth on the timing belt, may have ripped a couple off. Don't worry about the camcover gasket, just set it back in the groove.

did you experience any noises?

I for one dont think the cam gears slipped... ive run with my intake cam at full retard (from slipping) and its just basically like having no power, but one can drive the car. Only thing is if the exhaust gear slipped you may have bent some valves... which it sounds like from your symptoms. No way to tell for sure though.

It appears the intake cam gear has slipped to completely retarded.... here is what I need...the mm size of the bolt that turns the crank..local honda people say its 17 or 19 anyone know exactly(I have to tell a friend what to bring with him so I can get back on the road)

You need a 19 mm socket to turn the crankshaft.
That is on an ITR but I think it is the same for a GS-R. Just tell your friend to bring the whole metric set.
Aslo tell him to bring METRIC hex. wrenchs (Allen wrench) to work on the camgears. With imperial wrench you run the chance of stripping the bolt.

You will also need a 17mm socket (I use a 17mm key) to turn the camshaft back into position using the center bolt of the camgear.
