i have a d16z6 or i guess i should say had.
a couple days ago i broke my timing belt at 3000 rpms
i have a couple options,

*replace the belt and hope for the best
*replace the head, headgasket, and head studs
*replace with a jdm d15b vtec for $500

problem is the d16z6 had 85,000 miles and boosted for 6,000 so the timing belt has never been changed, but i cant get the crankshaft pulley bolt off

i used a impact gun, and a breaker bar, but i still cant get it off, help me out

also if i change out to a d15b, can i use my chipped p28 ecu??

what would you do in my situation

 

id get the d15b. chances are you bent some valves as the z6 is an interferrance motor.

yes u can use the chipped p28 on the d15. also, if u get the d15, replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, etc. and maybe put in a thicker cometic head gasket, cuz the d15b has higher compression.

or, just find another d16z6 for cheap, do the maintanence suggested above, minus the thicker headgasket, and do studs.

 

look dude either take it to a mechanical shop where they have the proper tools to get it off or find and buy the tool yourself. snap-on makes a specialty tool built especially for holding the honda crank puley while allowing access to the crank pulley bolt. my advice though is to just have it towed to a shop and let them put a t-belt on it or just pay to have the crank pulley removed and do the t-belt yourself.

 

its not necessarily as easy as getting it apart and replaceing the belt. throwing a belt on it isnt gonna fix the bent valves if it has them

put a screwdriver along the flywheel teeth to hold it in place. then turn the crank pulley bolt with a breaker bar.

take the head off and take it to a machine shop to have it inspected.

 

id honestly just get the d15b. you can find one for not too much more than it might cost to repair a hurt up head.

then change tbelt wp and get headstuds as mentioned above. you will be good to go with that

 

If you have access to an impact, assuming it isn't a cheapo compressor. Make sure you are using a large line for it. I think 1/2 or 5/8. The shop my dad works at, if i use the smaller line it won't budge those *******, but i go up to the larger line, and crank the gun, it will get it out. I've spent 10 minutes though with the smaller line and nothing.

I've heard of people getting lucky when breaking belts though. Prolly just pop the head off and have it inspected.

 

i thought the thread that honda origonally put on when the engine were new was a locking type, so if i bought a d15b i would still have the same problem, and i thought the d15b had connecting rods like twigs

i have a 20 gallon compressor and a $250 impact gun, but it still wont budge.

 

UPDATE***

well i got the bolt off and put the belt on, started the car and heard a slight tick,i havent started it in 5 days so it might be the lifters,


i am going to put the belts on tomorrow and let it warm up, hopefully nothing serious went wrong

 

if you wanna check the head yourself, just poor some water in the port(s) when the valves are completely shut, if they hold water, they are fine, and believe me, if they are bent in just the smallest amount, water will find its way through and the valves will leak. but definately check the valves like everyone is saying.

well i put everything back together and i have no ticking whatsoever
car seems like it needs to be timed on the distributer with a timing gun, but other than that, car rus/drives great!!

i gues i got my christmas presant early
