i have the chance to buy a built type r block thats built.
BLOCK CONSIST OF:
TALL BLOCK IS SLEEVED AND BORED TO 86MM BY RS MACHINE AND HAS A 1 INCH DECKPLATE WELDED ON TOP
RODS CROWER STEEL H BEAM RODS WITH CROWER ROD BOLTS
ARAIS CUSTOM GAS PORT PISTONS WITH 6.3CC DOME
HASTING RINGS
95MM EAGLE CRANK
ACL BEARINGS
ARP HEAD BOLTS/STUDS
86MM COMETIC HEAD GASKET

all this for only 1800. i want this set up bad,and it looks promising,but i dont know what timing belt to run. ive tried searching and asking but nothing has come up. do you think this is a good deal and i should get it? and will the timing belt issue be a pain in the ***?

 

hope you dont plan on daily driving something like that.

good luck trying to daily drive an 86mm bore 95mm stroke engine on the street. and all that for $1800? is there something wrong with it?

 

1. hood will not close without modding
2. motor will not hold HG
3. motor will not cool with a waterjacket that small in traffic.

5. you should be smart enough to know this motor probably has countless dyno pulls and 1/4 mile runs on it. it is probably ragged out worse than a saturday night ***** on sunday morning.
6. i cant speak for anyone else, but i personalyl refuse to purchase someone elses bucket of bolts even if the price is low. i make my own buckets of bolts.

 

The motor is brand spanking new,0 miles on it. the pistons/rods are out of the motor and the bearings need to be put it.

You're not going to daily drive on that motor - not for long at least.
Do you realize how much abuse the bearings on a 95mm crank are going to take?
Also, if I was going to buy a motor built by someone else, I would first measure the bores, make sure they are all true. Inspect all rods and bearing surfaces, inspect every moving part, make sure the pistons match the bore and intended piston/cylinder clearance, etc.
$1800 is alot of money to spend on a motor when you have no idea how it was built, run, abused, etc.
You'll also need to source out a timing belt for that motor. It's not going to take any honda/acura belt, that's for sure.

 

Its true man--when something seems to be too good to be true, it usually is. Whoever is going to spend the money to build a deck plate motor with a 95mm stroke is probably going to put it in a race car. Do you know the compression on it? 86mm is a big bore, and you rattle it at all--even a little bit--you are going to hurt the HG.

Getting a motor like that is a big commitment--and far from "set it and forget it" You have to understand a b series that is 400cc over what it was originally is going to require more maintenence--add to the fact if you ever want to rebuild it, the part are far from standard.

the k24 come with 99mm stroke, and Honda warranty them. So 95 mm troke is not that big of a deal.

Back to the suject, it's too good to be true. 95mm troke will not worry me, but the 86mm bore will. HG gonna hate life.

Lol, it's not just about the stroke. It has to do with the relationship of stroke vs. rod length, which is why it IS an issue in this case.

 

95mm is only an issue with the stock deck height, but if you're adding another 25.4mm to the deck (1"), shouldn't the world be a happier place?

 

i wouldnt touch that motor with a 10ft pole. I most definitely would not put a 86x95 on the street...kaboom b4 you know it.

 

if its built right the setup should be fine on the street. with that bore and stroke you can use a pretty flat piston dome and still stay around 11:5 compression. I would agree its quite a heavily moded setup for a DD but its your money.

ehhhh....depends on the rod length. That's something the OP should definitely find out.

 

actually--with a 1" deck plate (which is pretty darn big!) you can stuff a very long rod in there which is probably the case, so as long as the compression is reasonable--the only possible issue I see on a street motor is the 86mm bore....
