EM noob questions - i.e suspension, interior, interchangeable parts from other honda?
Hey all,
Im from the land of kiwis, yes thats right New Zealand. Am thinking about purchasing an NZDM 2001 Honda Civic sedan EM chassis?
Just wanted to do some light research in to the modification realm of this chassis, as it is no where to be seen here in little New Zealand, although we do get the nice JDM model RS versions here in the EM chassis, which usually comes with the nicer dash dials, factory spoiler/lip kit, and other extras.
Mine if I decide to purchase, will be bone stock with none of the extras like the RS version comes with so will have to end up doing it myself. Although not really in to performance mods, would like it to look good, as it will be a different style here in NZ to be doing up an EM.
First up, suspension wise, again, I will not be considering anything serious, and will be wanting to do the best 'on-the-budget' type of modifications. I am wondering if anyone can post up some pics of their factory suspension (struts and springs complete in a photo)?
Are they dramatically different to the EK chassis model suspension? Would EK Springs fit in to the EM struts? If I was to buy some lowered suspension, what kind of brands make straight 'bolt on' type springs for the EM sedan? And what are alternatives? Basically, I want to lower the vehicle on a budget, so that would mean the most straight forward lowering process.
Interior wise one question - ARe the front seat rail mounting points the same as an EK model? Can EK model seat rails be bolted straight in to the EM chassis, Yes or No?
Any other modifications I should be considering that fits in to my 'low budget' modifications list? I already have a pretty good stereo setup I've been gathering together to put in to her. Oh which reminds me,
in the EM sedans, (im not sure if it will be any different for NZDM, USDM and JDM models), but what are the factory speaker sizes in the doors? I gather that the rear parcel tray sits 6/6.5" speakers?
Thanks. Any help would be muchly appreciated as there isnt much of a knowledge base here in New Zealand for the type of chassis as the EM's are not highly desireable chassis to modify here like the US.

Pretty much NOTHING from the older Civic's is interchangeable.
If u want interchangable parts look at the RSX( maybe u call it integra?) or Ep3 ( civic Hatchback).
For lowering, there are MANY brands that produce kits, from springs to coil over sleeves, to full coil overs. Springs are the cheapest, then sleeves then full coils.
For front seats, u can use Ep3 seats, and RSX seats, 3 of the 4 bolts will be perfectly aligned, and the last just needs to be widened for it to work.

thanks for that Vantage.
Umm, yes the RSX is called DC5 otherwise known as Integra.
can someone name some of the brands and models of springs (just lowering springs not coilover sleeves or fully adjustable coilovers) that are available for EM1 (if thats the sedan chassis code) direct?
Thanks

em1 = EK = 1999/2000 Civic Si ( in the USA, its the civic coupe with b16a2 stock)
em2 = 2001-2005 Civic Coupe
es = 2001-2005 Civic 4 Door ( like urs, ferio, RS)
ep3 = 2001-2005 Civic Hatchback ( civic Si)
For Springs u can look through a TON of manufactors:
Some include
H&R Sports 1.3" Drop F/R
Neuspeed sport 1.75" F / 1.5" rear
Neuspeed Race 2.5" F/2" rear
Eibach Pro Kit 1" F/R
Eibach sportline 1.4" F/R
Progress Sport 1.8" Front/ 2" rear
Tein Hi Tech .7" front/ .8" rear
Tein S tech 1.3" front/ 1.4" rear
There are many more, but those are the main ones people are using.
Everything except the neuspeed's can be found on http://www.dezod.com

Yes, those should fit. If they're designed for an EP3, that is.

Hey about the speakers in the rear deck, they are 6x9 here in the US, I don't know if it's different there. I just drilled new holes and put 6.5 in. speakers, it's easy, but getting the rear deck off is a pain in the ***.
ummm nah they're not 6x9's in the sedans here aye.
they are factory 6x9's in the EK chassis though, not the ES shape sedan, wel not the one I looked at while I was doing my research.

OK, sorry for the bad info. Does anyone know if all the coupes have 6x9's in the rear or just the EX's?
