Default swapping a b16 into my 96 LS

what needs to be done exactly? Just wire up VTEC, and the Knock sensor? I am going to convert the B16 motor to OBD2 if its not already a b16a2 and run a stock OBD2 B16 ecu for emissions purposes.

- will the obd2 b16 ecu plug directly into the existing harness?

Is there anything else that needs to be done?

(I am doing this job for a friend and just wanted to make sure that this is all that needs to be done, or if I'm forgetting anything?)

Thanks

its for my friend.. he has a VERY VERY shitty LS/VTEC in there right now.. (stock block, stock head, just put together, worst job ever!) and its done.. needs a complete rebuild. The car has been sitting for over a month.

But, he only has $1500 max to spend on parts and labor. so not much at all. And I'm trying to either find him either a cheap b18c1 or just gonna get a b16 long block from hmotorsonline. But he wants reliability, and VTEC but doesnt have money. So building the LS/VTEC for $1000 is not gonna happen.

You can buy ls motors for cheap. Then he can do an ls/v or turbo later on when he has more money. This is a better solution in the long run. I think he'll be happier with that then just a b16. B16s are weak sauce for an integra. Or still better yet b20/vtec.

Serious. Whats the point of having VTAK when the same car without it is faster than you. Save yourself some money and just get an LS motor.

that is what I told him. I said either buy an LS or B20 motor and just wait till the summer when he can turbo or do whatever..

but being a young kid and no brains, he wants VTEC so bad.. lol... so hey.... aint my problem.. im just doing the work..

so anyone got any thoughts if i need anything else, or am i good to go?

I don't see why a b16 would be such a bad choice for the price. I know it doesn't have as much torque, but teggys aren't that much heavier then eg hatchs they usually swap b16s into. look...

1994 integra RS - 2529 lbs
1994 civic Si - 2319 lbs

I would go LS turbo, but he could just turbo the b16 later and be just as fast or faster.

lol. Maybe what i said, was taken out of context a little. or i just didn't put too much thought into what i was typing. I know they all have the same engine's

RS/LS/GS/. same engines across the board. what i meant was.Why does it have to
called LS-Vtec. ive never heard anybody refer it as a RS-Vtec or GS-Vtec.
So if somebody was to do it to an RS and therfore call it an RS-Vtec, would inspire ppl like myself so do the same.

you like chose the heaviest civic for comparison...more importantly, 200 lbs is pretty damn significant...Thats like rolling with a fatass passenger 24-7...b16 integra's are slow, the secret's out

The RS has the same b18b (aka LS) engine that are found in the LS and GS integras. But i guess you could call an LS/VTEC a RS/VTEC if you like...

If the motor is not a ob2 you will need a crank position sensor and obd2 oil pump. Run the vtec, and knock sensor wire directly to the ecu, not the engine bay harness.

you'd be surprised. cost of parts + cost of machining + cost of labor = $$$

Fine. Stock civics and civics without boost or a lot of money in them are slow.

I already told him its not gonna be a fast street racer..

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jdmboi86 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">b16's but why dont he rebuild that ls/vtec or buy a ls block and rebuild that put the head on that and boom got a good ls-vtec im sure it dont cost no more than 1500 to build a good ls-vtec </TD></TR></TABLE>

ya well if he re builds his ls/vtec and just builds the block, then he will only have $1000 to spend on the block.. and for $1000, that aint happening. Machine work, parts, labor is way more than that. Because he will owe me the other $500 to install, clean up his engine bay, re wire everything (its a nightmare of cut and hack and some electric tape) and drive 25 minutes each way for however long its gonna take to finish everything. It's not his fault. He bought the car off of ebay, and it's a nightmare.. ill take pics.. and you all are gonna have a laugh!

and a b16 wouldnt be that slow.. big deal it aint no 14 second car.. but he's got enough speeding tickets and **** that he doesnt need a fast car.. plus he can turbo it if he wants later..

bottom line is, its his money, his choice...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by mr.ssa_whole &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">If the motor is not a ob2 you will need a crank position sensor and obd2 oil pump. FINALLY thanks.. where would the crank positioning sensor go/hook up to?
