Default 3rd Brake light

I just picked up a stock 3rd brake light but my hatch doesn't have the holes for it (gsr). I removed my stock wing with the light in it and now I have a Black widow wing on it. I didn't want to get a ticket for not having a 3rd brake light so I bought a stock one. Do you think I can have a glass shop drill the 2 holes to mount it properly or should I just rig it to stay in place.

Drilling the glass sounds a little bit pricey. Can you keep it up with say...some clear silicone?

I thought about that and I also thought about using double stick tape but I don't know how it would hold up and I don't want to ruin the defroster lines if I ever need to take it out.

Use rearview mirror adhesive.

Yeah I agree you should just use some type of adhesive. Drilling holes might be expensive.

There was a post which had a link to DIY for installing one. I once called an Acura dealer for the whole third light setup on my 99 Teg Gs, and they estimated 700 for everything, so I just went and got one from off an 95 Teg from ebay, but yeah, I would say just find some sort of adhesive.

O and for those who do not know, NOT having a third brake light is illegal.

I doubt you would get pulled over for it though, and even if you did it'd probably be a fix it ticket. But better safe than sorry I suppose. Rearview mirror adhesive would work nicely. Don't drill the glass.

First off it's not a fix it ticket, because all cars manufactured after 1985 were required to have a 3rd brake light along with a latch to open the trunk from the inside of it. And Volvo was the first to do both. It is also illegal to remove the driver airbag but you can remove the passenger side without a problem. The only way to get the driver side removed is to get a written pass from the government.

As for putting mine in I decided to use either double stick tape or silicone. I'll look into the rearview addhesive too.

I can't open the trunk from the inside, there is no latch and my car is post-1985.

Is it a 4dr or hatch cause if it's a hatch you want have for the simple fact it's a hatch and the seats in the rear can go down. As for a 4dr I should correct myself with that either the trunk can be opened from the inside or you an pull the rear seats down from the trunk. But there is a pull for either depending on the car.

Yea, I need to get a 3rd brake light as well , as I went wingless on my GSR. I was thinking of using the mirror adhesive stuff, but i have tint on the back glass and didnt want to mess that up. Anyone else have any ideas for the 3rd brake light and having window tint ?

Hook it to your rear cargo cover thing.
