Default I gotta question bout bein "ricey"

so from wut i hear, bein ricey means havin like big wheels, bodykits, etc. on your car am i right?? with decals and such, and with the assumption they have nothin under the hood. Well what if i pulled up next to you w/my rex, w/new electron blue paint, mugen flared kit, white 17" konig rated-r's, teg taillight conversion, and matching white decals all over the car, been lowered, and a fake dual exhaust. Would your first assumption be that this guy has nothing??? that he's a riceboy who just thinks he's fast?? would you think this after i took the hood off to show you the built b18c5 under it and a blue bottle in the back?? I've juss wondered how far is "rice" used.......

I don't use the word "rice". If someone did something to their car and they like that is all that matters. It shouldn't matter what other people think as long as it pleases the owner of the car.

well yes, at first i may think you were riced a little.....but at the same time i could give you your props cuz it sounds like it looks good( with the eception of the exhaust and graphix, just not my style..) but other than that, i don't consider kits or big rims rice( except 18"+)......and after i seen under the hood...haha, i wouldn't race you..but i woudln't show it off if i were you, hustle and make some money. let poeple think you are riced, then put some money up and make em cry... you wanna see what my car is about to look like ( half in primer alreday) go to the topic, what do you think by "ShawnD"

i see decals and imeaditly blow their doors off. a car w/o decals is by far more scarey than one with decals. the kiddies quite often dont race once the see a stripped car w/ 1 seat and the rust helps too

I think a better question would be, why is RICE used as a refference of a persons distaste of another persons personal taste in the building of there car?Last time I checked my car was not listed in the food nutrition guide or part of the food pyramid. I understand the implication of the term, but I don't think I've ever read or heard of a person in another country reffering to another countries car as a piece of food. I mean what if someone in Japan reffered to their distaste of a mustang as being Steak or Hamburger.I think it sounds pretty stupid, what about any one else? It's no different then some calling an import RICE , because of the way it looks. But this is just my 2 cents

i feel rice is anything put on your car to make it look faster than what it really is. its not style its posing. thats right RICE is not STYLE! style is in the tuning not the image.

correct. Rice is making your car looksfast and its not. Like kitting a 90 HP Civic and thinking it smokes ferrar's. However doing an engine swap would eliminate the rice.

Also Its not always the dcar thats rice its the person and how they act.

right, but my point is how do you know if it really is as fast as it looks. what do you call that in this case??

i agree partially. a motor swap doesnt justify 8923657891236591723465764790560147956134 stickers tho or even a kit.

nah, i'm not talkin about stickers, ppl don't need to know what i got in or on my car. I'm talkin about graphix. Basically, i'm doin a major makeover w/my car in the next 2 months: mugen flared kit, new blue paint, white wheels, white graphix, cf hood, fake dual angled out like the hiper's, and swap in a built jdm b18c5 w/turbo and nos. In my opinion, i don't see how this could be considered ricey. If ricey is supposed to be an offensive term, then you get smoked, do i just laugh?? I'm a lil confused on the "rice" terminology.

I dont have one sticker on my car but SiR cause its an SiR....

And yeah I did invest in the kit cause you get more clearence for you intercooler. My stock bumper was also trashed as well as the rear one cracked. My interior is stock so i guess that rice too. My boost gauge and all V-AFC stuff is hidden in glove box. but again all rice. My engine isint paited to hell nor my car having racing stripes. I dont gave a spoiler.

If I said I got a mugen body kit (which Im gettin) you would have said sweet. I hate that Mugen kits suck they are fibreglass but what ever cause im getting one prolly tomoorow for 300 cdn off buddy

Hmm...external sensor...like a midget in "cusco" overalls with a screwdriver and a timing light crammed into your engine bay between the battery and the air filter?

Heh...everyone remember http://www.riceboypage.com? Brings back memories...

Just a quick question but when did the name "ricer" come into existance? I'm thinkin that some "ricer" himself made up the name. I'd never be one to judge though cuz it is all personal taste, with the exception of the people who trick out Oldsmobiles and whatnot... By the way what are they called?

i think the term ricer is just an evolution of the term rice rocket, or rice burner, simply because hondas and whatever sport compacts are typically japanese, and since us asian people eat rice, i guess that's what our cars burn, it really doesn't make any logical sense.

maybe the term rice rocket is a re-interpretation of the term pocket rocket, which has been around for a while (16 valve golf gti comes to mind). They're called pocket rockets for obvious reasons: they're little and quick. Another version of that word is given to sport bikes: crotch rockets.

there really isn't any kind of derogatory term given to people who modify oldsmobiles... i'm assuming you're thinking of the older domestic crowd who modify muscle cars. I think the reason for the obviously racially/culturally derogatory term of "ricer" is the same for the existence of most words like that: to differentiate between groups. Its just pride, stupid pride. Its saying "i'm cool cuz i do this, and you aren't because you do something else, so i'm going to make fun of you." I think its dumb. In my opinion all car guys and girls are in it for the same reasons.

My feelings on this topic are reflected in my user name, cuz i like ALL cars. Like Takumi from Initial D says, i think if its got wheels, tires, an engine... it'll go, and that's pretty cool on its own.

Edit: I totally read BROCiviC's post about oldmobiles wrong... i think. my bad

i think ricey is puttin stuff on your car that isn't functional, like a big friggen wing that'll pick up radio stations in the Philippines. sounds like you'll have a nice setup, just one question. Why do you want to put on a fake exhaust?

All these are just unjustafiable(to me anyway)
underbody neon kits, strobes, windshield washer nozzle led's, illuminated "H" and "A" emblems=rice
painted on fender trim, actual fender trim, huge spoilers, large and insane body kits=rice
way too loud of an exhaust, really loud and raspy=rice
vinyl stickers, neon green painted(especially with vinyl stickers), too many stickers=rice
Slammed so low they can hardly drive down the road and their heads are bouncing off the roof=rice
There is a difference between a nice car and a rice car. Where the term originated, I dont care. Its a way of classifing those cars.
I look at a car, and if it looks clean, then its a nice car. Large wheels, body kit, large guages, one or two(total) small stickers are all ok, as long as it looks clean. Everyone has their own opinions, but my little mod list above are mods that are just unjustafiable to me. That car is a ricer if it has any of those.....
