1996 Honda Civic Radio installation with keyless entry
Can someone help me with what I should do so my keyless entry so it will work if I put in an aftermarket radio. Crutchfield stated I should mount my factory radio somewhere but where the heck would i mount that bulky thing.
it will fit in the dash below wher it is now, in front of the console. its a tight fit but it will go. have you considered an aftermarket keyless? they can be purchased extremely cheap and all the wires you need are in the plug behind the radio.
so you are saying where the cigarette Lighter is, that is where the radio should fit back behind. It does seem like a tight fit. So the factory radio will be powered on as well. I am not sure how it would fit in the dash below the radio because that is where the heat/air units is.

Ive installed a million of these, yes the factory radio will barely fit down behind the fact location behind the radio support frame. You have to wedge it down there vertically. you can get the after market harmess from stereo shop and leave the keyless harness plugged into the fact radio. You will have to unsnap the factory harness tie downs so that you will have slack for the relocation.

if you are asking where to relocate the factory head unit, when you pull the whole under dash cig lighter assembly apart, you can put the radio behind the metal subframe.
lol, not that i know of. If it isnt going to be functional why bother? its just extra work considering the fact that the factory radio will fit behind the console.
sorry for all the questions but just want to make sure i do the install right. What direction should the factory face plate be facing so I can make sure I position the radio right. Again, thanks for your help.
I just wanted to update everyone that I did complete the installation and all is working.
I did a little different modification.
First I took all the panels off including the center console/shifter area. I took out the CD Player and cup holder that was down on the lower panel. I unhooked the CD player and then took the CD player face off the player. I then attached the CD Player face to the trim. I then took the factory radio and mounted it face down in the area where the back of the CD player was. I then put the cup holder and CD face back, hook the harnesses up and then put the new radio in. I put all the trim back on.
If anyone has any questions about the installation, please let me know. It was easy and trouble free.
Thanks for all the help on this.
