Default Rough cold start, runs great after,,, 89 accord???

First time here guys, My nephew came home from college with his 89 accord, 95k miles. Runs great after it warms up. Starts hard in the Indiana cold and runs rough and stalls at stop signs. After it warms up it purrs like a kitten. I did a search ( because you get flamed on zcar.com if you don't) and someone mentioned a thermal sensor by the dizzy? Does the 89 have this or should I look else where.. new plugs, wires cap and rotor only a few months old an they look good. Merry Christmas...thanks

my non-tech advice to you is. when you turn on your accord after its been off for awhile. let it warm up completely before going anywhere and you will see a difference. its better especially for the older accords. everytime its been off for a few hours and the engine cools off and the fluid in the engine settles and you start her up. give her a few minuets to warm up. should see a diff...

if not then there is other issues.

Is your car a LX or LX-i??i should be able to answer your question if i find this out. I myself have a 87 accord lx with i converted to carb-efi. You have to still let it warm up a bit but i live in NC which Indiana getsa little colder there so you have to let it warm up a bit more than in NC.

I'd rather be in NC. Its an LX basic. It ran fine and this problem happened after his drive home from school. Is there a thermal sensor on this car?

The Lx has a carb. The engine is very picky about vacum. check the hot air door diapram in the breather snorkle tube and the dist. vacum advances.

I would also check your PCV valve "U" shaped hose. Check all you hoses to make sure there isn't a vacuum leak. You can spray some carb cleaner on the hoses. If the idle all of a sudden changes then you'll know it's a leaky hose, Battery connections, both fuel filters , check the fuel pump pressure and flow to make sure it's working properly also i would take the top screen off the carb so you can clean out the bottom of the float bowl it gets kinda yucky if it hasn't been cleaned in a while. If you check all of the above of what everyone has said i think you'll find it. Hope this helps.
