battery troubles (radio or alarm related)
my dad has an 85 deville, yeah i know, not a honda but ive always received really great advice here when it came to the electrical system. well every 2 days the car would need to be rejumped because the battery would die. we replaced the battery already so its not that and what he thinks is it might be the deck or alarm draining the system. when he originally got the car, he purchased an older model alpine deck at a local circuit city to be installed. he turned the volume up pretty high and next thing you know, the whole electrical system inside the car blew. he brought it back and supposedly the guy rewired the deck back so that it was draining power directly from the battery? im not sure what he meant by that. also as the car would get drained of its battery wed hear the alarm make its usual noise as if it was going off but aat a very very low volume as if it was struggling. we dont know where to go from here..any advice would be appreciated. i was thinking of pulling the fuse for the radio first and see if it was in fact the radio but how effective and would that method work? how would i go about disconnecting the alarm..what fuse would i pull for that?
Find the alarm brain, and follow the main harness to where it connects to the vehicle's wiring. Usually, there will be a fuse on the main power wire. Pull that or cut the wire.
Then, pull the deck & disconnect both the red & yellow power wires and drive the car for a couple of days.
If the battery still dies, then there's other problems. If it stays charged, then you found the problem.
I'd actually do one at a time to figure out if one or the other is actually causing the problem... Probably easier to disconnect the alarm so he doesn't have to go without tunes for those 2 days if the radio isn't the problem.
