Fan keeps running on Accord
My son has a 1995 Accord Ex. Last night he came home from school and the passenger side fan kept running until I found the fuse and pulled it. I assume there is a relay switch that has gone bad but really don't know. Questions: could it be something else? and (2) where is the relay? Thanks from a new member
In addition to the fan relay, there's a timer module. But I don't know where it's located...
There's 2 fan switches, one is responsible for switching the fan while the engine's running, the other's responsible after shutdown. The timer module is responsible for sorting that out & turning OFF the fan after a while even if the 2nd switch is stuck.

jim, I thought that the 94+ accords did not have a timer but instead relied upon the coolant temp sensor to run the fan until the coolant temp dropped below 215 degrees?
I guess I'm thinking about earlier ones. I didn't realize Honda had ANOTHER control scheme in between there. That makes what, 4 different schemes over the years?
Still, I'd expect the ECT sensor isn't gonna work without the ECU; & I'm fairly sure the ECU is powered off with the key.

i think the ecu is powered for a certain amt of time after you turn the key off. I know in my 94 I could still roll windows up for about 10 mins if I was in the car and turn the car off but did not get out
Thanks for the responses. The fan ran for over an hour. Does anyone know where the switch is? OR if it is a coolant temperature sensor I assume it is in the coolant. How do I find it? Fish around in the radiator? What bait should I use to attract it?...Worms? Would it hit dry flies...Blue wing Olives, maybe? Since I know nothing about Hondas (nor any other car for that matter) is replacing it like replacing the fuse? Is there a different one for the passenger side fan? The drivers side turned off ok. Cheers, ya'all

The time your fan ran is way over the timer limit, next time it happens open the hood and unplug the sensor that is inline with the TOP Radiator Hose, if the fan shuts off that sensor is the problem.

Did this and also please check your coolant and see if you have enough. I know it will run after shutoff if coolant is low.

i had the exact same problem on my 95 accord. even when the car was turned off the fan ran...for hours. In my case it was just a bad relay. if you look around down on the right side of the radiator there should be two relays...thats where they were on mine. i believe the fan on the passenger side is the a/c fan, so the problem isnt cooling related. i just matched up a relay at work and changed it and problem solved.
Thanks for the info. I'll check out the coolant level, look for the relay, not find it, go find Jason down on Sixth Sixth Street. By-the-by the Honda Pro guys here are former dealership employees that opened up in a shed and are charging dealership prices (and using dealership service writing tricks) and getting away with it because everybody thinks dealerships are a rip.
