Friend's son got a ticket for having a engine swap, what next?
He did'nt do anything wrong as far as driving, but i guess a 92 hatch with a bunch of jdm goodies is just to temping for a CHP not to pull over. He asked to take a look under the hood and notice the red top jdm type r engine in the bay and said"you did a engine swap, that's not the stock engine". He got a sticker on the car to go to a ref, WHAT NEXT? Is there anyway to pass this or is he pretty much f%$#ed!!!!??????

Well, that's hella ghey first off, and does he have any receipts for the engine?
They're probably thinking it's stolen, but if he has proof from a known place,
and not the guy living next door with 4 integras in his driveway.
But cali has some pretty weird laws, so I have no idea.

Yea lived in cali for a while, theay just have so maney type rs get stollen and moters to get shiped frome japane that are stolen, that theay can pull you over and give you a sticker ticket, which is like getting a tint sytation. You have to usually go to the dmv and get the vins checked to varafy that its not stollen, and then you just get the sytation swyped of , but the bad thing is you have to pay court cost.
you can get it BAR approved at the state referee. you need the USA version of the ITR ecu installed, and all the emissions stuff hooked up properly - cat, charcoal canister, etc. make sure you are using OEM intake and exhaust.
It can be done, and I know quite a few people who have had their swaps legalized.

you dont need oem exhaust. this is a good time to have your CARB legal aftermarket parts. they put all the parts on the sticker once it passes emissions.. and then next time you get pulled over they look at the sticker and it tells them that your parts are OK and smog legal
IS IT POSSIBLE TO SELL THE CAR IN CALI IF SOMEBODY WANTED TO BUY THE CAR WITHOUT GETTING THIS PROBLEM FIXED???????OR WOULD THAT PERSON INHERT THE PROBLE?
actually from what i remember, 95 and older automobiles could have things done because their not required to do a emission test, just the normal horn, lights and cat check..from what i remember..
i had a 91 integra ls with a jdm b16a swap in it, and was never told anything, of course this was in miss, texas and louisiana..i dunno how it goes where ur from..and personally i'd try to fight it..

we in cali, nothing passes by that easy.
The citation is in your name. You can sell the car but you still have an unsolved citation in your name.. I would take care of it. I would get it barred, raises the value of your swap a little.

oops, I meant oem exhaust manifold, although a carb approved ITR model DC one could work.

If you don't live in Cali then don't worry about it. You part of the small percentage that can do things to your car without getting a ticket.
The more threads I read like this the more I love TN. I have a 3 gauge A pillar and I know in Cali I would get pulled over with the quickness, but here cops don't care. There is absolutley no emissions in my city/county. I have been pulled over and the cops just ask "what are those for?" I tell them and then they ask "Do you ever take it out to the track?" We chit chat a little and I usually get off with a verbal or written warning. Sorry to all the people in Cali and other states that have similar laws.

This is the correct way to get any passenger vehicle engine legally swapped into a car. You just need the US emission control equipment from the equivalent US engine, and an appointment with a state ref. The only other requirement is that the donor engine comes from a same year or newer car.

I understand CA has issues with people getting pulled over but I really don't think they are all that bad. Yes we have hardcore issues with Smog emmission but that's for environmental purpose and not necesarily to f-up people fixing their rides. My truck doesn't even need a smog check since it's older then 25 years.
Being older now, I really only notice "kids" getting pulled over. I have/had a lowered Integra with the pillar gauges, and all that and no hassle. Although when I was younger I was pulled over more. Oh well thats just my experience. I'm definately not saying he should have been pulled over but I think age is a factor but I understand that some police officers just hassle people.
