Default TRANSMISSION GRINDING IN 3RD GEAR?

idk what is causing my car transmission to grind it only does it when you go into third gear ONLY at high RPMS it doesnt do it when you shift it at low rpms what is tha cause of this and the fix. Im sure im pushing the clutch all the way in i even tryed doing it slow and making sure it was fully engaged and even when i take it high and hold the clutch even without releasing the clutch it still grinds one person told me it could be my tranny going out and another said it can be my clutch....DOES ANYONE HAVE AN ANSWER OR A GUESS ON WHAT IT COULD BE ?

sounds like a synchro

try double de-clutching going into third and see if the crunch goes away. if it does you've got your answer

Flush out the tranny first... look to any large chippings.... if that dosn't fix it, your looking at a synchro problem. Bring it to acura and expect to pay 1200+

3rd gear synchro grinding is famous in our transmission. At this point, your best option before having the synchros replaced, which IS NOT going to cost you $1200+ is purchase some GM Syncromesh with friction modifier. That has helped many of us.

Note: synchros grinding will not prevent you from driving the car, and you may find that with less abrasive shifting you may not grind that gear at all.

Wow, this is easily all over HT. JonD is right, its just your synchros, try some GM Synchromesh. You can get all new synchros from gearspeed.com for around 250 bucks.

It's the 3rd gear synchro - GM synchromesh will not fix anything. It is a band-aid solution at best. If you don't want this recurring, you'll need to replace the synchro.

It's a Honda, they all have that 3rd gear grind. Haven't you seen the video of the guy who makes like he's driving the supra, then makes likes he's driving a civic with No2? Even he knows about the 3rd gear gring...

But really, flush first. Then try the syncromesh. If that isn't it, get the sync's done.

Yup, your synchros is the issue at hand I believe. Use Gm synchro mesh friction modified. There is the normal gm synchro mesh and friction modified, which is the one that you want. I used it and it does not grind as much as before, but it helped out a lot. Before I was getting grinds at 6-7k rpms and now it grinds around 8k and above.

putting in new fluids, which i'm guessing what you're talking about(?) will only cover up the problem a bit

pull the box apart and replace the parts, which is what i would do as i wouldnt want to damage anything else and have to pay more £££'s as a result of being lazy and putting it off

*edit* and double declutch going into 3rd and help reduce any more wear

I know! I saw where he meant to say $$$ and was curious if his keyboard is different. I figured I probably wouldn't get another chance to ask it and I was curious, so I just went ahead and asked.
