Failed smog check :(
Took it in for a smog check this morning, failed
I forgot that the engine light came on recently, so it would have failed anyway.
This is my first car and I only got it a couple of months ago as a hand-me-down, any suggestions would be helpful. Was going to change the oil soon (bought some high mileage oil + a filter today), will that help?
Also, this will be my first oil change, any suggestions with that would be much appreciated

119.5k miles (it's in the image), no significant mods.

your engine code say it all, o2 heater unit is out. P1456 evap system leak i think, maybe ur fuel cap was loose. After you replace the part, remember to drive the car around to set the monitors before you bring it back, and also check on the p1456 if it come back.
Bump.
Any idea how much an O2 heater unit should cost? As for labor, is it something I can feasibly do myself (little to no experience fixing cars), or does it require more skill than just unscrewing something and sticking a new one in? If I can't do it myself, how much would a reasonable labor cost be?

it should be like 75 bux at autozone depending on what model you have. if it's an HX the o2 sensor will cost a lot.
when you go to autozone tell them it's the o2 sensor before the cat, on the header.
then while your there you can pick up the o2 sensor socket, they will help u find it if you don't know how it looks.
you will have to take off the header heat shield if you have the stock header, then after that you can remove the old o2 sensor. the header will be hot as *** so don't touch it if you jus drove it, jus be very careful or wait til it's warm or cold. it might be a pita to get off so you may need a big *** bar attached to your ratchet, spray some pb blaster on the sensor too then try to take it off.
good luck.

well every one pretty much answer the smog question but abut changing the oil jus lift your car the oil pan is going to be on the driver side, put some thing to catch the oil and take off the plug all the oil is going to come out so just wait like 2minutes ones the oil is all out take off the oil filter its going to be ou top of the oil pan when u take it off make sure the rubber ring comes out too, now that all that out put the new oil filter back put the oil pan plug back DONT PUT IT IN THERE SO TIGHT I HAVE TO LEARN THE HARD WAY U'LL HAVE OIL ALL OVER THE PLACE so then put the oil back and u should be ste
Okay the only thing I will suggest that works. is the following...
New cat ++Reduction in co2 and hydro's will go down alot ++
Spak plugs
Cap and Rotor
Ign timing set at stock setting for that motor
New oil and oil filter
New Air Filter, stock air box is the best to pass with
$$$**Oh and before you do all this to the motor seafoam in the intake manifold, to clean out carbon build up on pistons.... The stuff works, and before your ouil change dump some in the crankcase, and run the engine around for 15mins, then do the oil change. If you do everything listed above you'll pass way below the specs.**$$$

Yes on everything except the cat, don't change it yet. Get the new O2 in and test it again and post result. The only thing i would suggest is changing the O2 first though, unless you already need those to be replace.

It costs the same to do it legally, and you get the added benefit of never having to smog the car ever again.

You are telling people this all over this board... But I have yet to see how you can LEGALLY make the car smog exempt. Your LPG conversion idea doesn't hold up either according to the law... so how are you doing it? Fill me in, lets see if it holds up.

I believe the law now states that a car convereted must also pass smog in its stock form in addition to any spec set forth by the LPG conversion. So taking off the conversion kit and running it back on petrol and it not passing on petrol-smog rules would violate this rule i'd assume. Manufacturers of conversion kits must also have carb and epa approval on their kits, as far as I know in Cali....

This is what I am not able to confirm. I just found a document that says they don't have be "CARB" legal (the LPG kits that is) like you would assume. The kits are tested by the feds however and supposedly in order to be "legal", the kits have to emit LESS emissions then the vehicle did stock. It says you still have to retain all emissions equipment including the cat also. I can't find much more information about the conversion which is why I am asking hazw8st to provide some more information.
Edit: Just found this...
"Under current California regulations, conversion of emission-controlled vehicles with retrofit systems to operate on alternative fuels, such as propane and natural gas, in lieu of the original gasoline or diesel fuel is only allowed if the retrofit systems have been evaluated and certified by the Air Resources Board. The certification must be obtained by the manufacturer of the retrofit system and is issued by the Air Resources Board once the manufacturer demonstrates compliance with the emission, warranty, and durability requirements."

Now according to this list, it would not be legal to convert ANY Honda/Acura to LPG since they offer no kits...
