Default knock off type R ls vtec rods ????

well i am looking to put together a nice ls vtec on the cheap i know where i can source new type r pistons for very cheap but my concern is the LS rods i would like to avoid spending alot of money on aftermarket stuff i dont plan on revving this engine much over 7,500 ta 8,200 i wont beat the **** out of it
i have heard that the rods are an LS's weak point wit hthe raised compression and higher redline im worried
which bring my next question will GSR pistons and rods work ? cause i have another friend with them in very nice shape for cheap
i heard the main journal is a different size or the deck height or some

anyway sorry to babble
i would just like pointed in the reliable direction on these topics i trust oem honda stuff alot and i know my rods are good im afraid to purchase some ******** used type r rods only to have them kill my fresh engine

Did you even bother to read the LSVTEC threads, every one of them addresses this issue.

For starters, LS rods are perfectly fine, its the rod bolts that are the weak link. You have to install ARP rod bolts and have a machine shop resize the big end of the rods.

Secondly, which type R pistons are you talking about, CTR or ITR? With either of these pistons, the LS rods will need to be modified to fit. And if you are talking about the CTR's, the resulting compression ratio will be on the high side.

Do some research (search button), but to help you out, some PR3 or P30 pistons will fit stock LS rods and yeild around mid 11 compression ratio's for your LSVTEC build, depending on the head used.

to answer the second part of your question, gsr rods would put the pistons above the deck at tdc since they are longer than ls rods.
