Default Main Studs???

Are these essential in a motorbuild? I did a little research and it seems as if not a lot of people include them in fresh builds. please share some opinions. Thanks

If you don't plan on align honing the block its one of the worst things you could do to a block, and its an over kill 99% of the time.

Why would main studs have anything to do with align honing the block?

Because the TQ number( compression ) is different. The same reason you re-machine the rod big end after installing ARP rod bolts.

Then why not just use the stock torque values?

Because then they aren't at the mfg of the studs specs so the rated holding capacity is no longer accurate.

It's just one of the things involved in putting something together that will live vice putting something together that will grenade next summer.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Muckman &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Then why not just use the stock torque values?</TD></TR></TABLE> Because ARP said not to. How is that, other than clamping force of a higher tensil strength material, which is the reason for using them anyways.
