is there supposed to be a gasket at the spot where the cat meets the exhaust?

i looked and that part isnt connected on my car at the moment so i was wondering if there should be a gasket there cause i dont have one at this time.


edit=car was sitting in a garage for months thats why i dont remember....i am not retarded!!
