Default cleaning pcv vs replacing

yes I know they are cheap
I am that tight right now

I was cleaning the tb(DPFI) with seafoam and a toothbrush and while I was at it I figured I would look at my pcv, the top was a little gunky so I took the toothbrush to it and squirted a bit into it
(did not remove from IM),
I also pulled the hose and flushed it well.

the valve was moving freely and easily

the question is
should I bother changing it now, or does it sound ?

I am gonna retry the smog test today and want to know

No teflon tape. I tried to clean mine and made it worse. Pay the 4bucks.
If you don't replace it watch your oil level carefully as I went through a quart in 60 miles because it was stuck open.

Good luck on the smogtest.

I had already cleaned it while I was there
That is the only reason I would consider it

I don't know if it really can be cleaned, maybe? but I think seafoam will eat away at it since it seems to be made out of all plastic...its just a oneway valve, and usually isn't replaced as often as i should be and can have some very negetive effects if it is over looked, of the safety and longevity of your motor i'd replace it, I try to do mine like every 5K-10K miles as a minimum...

Also teflon tape is really only used for threaded fittings, it fills in any crevesis that a gas could leak by in the threads There is 2 differen kinds too, one for gas and one for liquids...

I wouldn't put teflon tape around the threads, but definitely a dab of anti-seize.

It does, it threads in next to #3 ?port? beneath an upside-down J shaped hose that plugs into the Ccase breather on the other end

if you look up pcv for 91 crx on your fav auto parts site you will see both types, straight metal with threads, and the right angled plastic w/ no threads
not sure why they are different, I have read the archives and some dpfi's have the rightangle, no thread one too....I think they were newer civics than 91

I thought my DPFI had a metal one and my MPFI had a plastic one.

You should still just replace it. If you can afford to do a tune up, you can afford replace it! I change mine every 15000kms. I don't like having a dirty part. The oil gets dumped ever 2509kms, the oil filter ever 5000kms. I'm super picky.

Yes, my DPFI has a metal one it goes here:

the hole in the center of the picture is what it screws into

I am picky too
oil and filter every 3000mi
the Helms manual says 60k miles or 2yrs which ever is 1st
it has been 2yrs, but I think I will start swapping them every year (12-15Kmi)
