Default **LS/V or GSR**

Alright i am about to complete my LS/V conversion in about a week...

and i was hoping to get some opinions of the LS/V and GSR.

what are the benefits/flaws of a GSR and the LS/V or just give me your personal experiences and preferences.

thanks

GSR = more reliable, GSR heads are better for boost, higher compression for NA
LS/V = more power theoretically, more stroke.

i don tknow what your intensions are but if your going for na i would have picked up a jdm b20b block and gone crvtec because the ls and crv blocks are almost the same but the b20 has more toqure.. either way with a gsr ir b16 tranny your would but up decent times as long as you have decent tires

good luck

BTW:: the search button is a nice thing to look at first

except with the B20 bottom end, like honda likes to do, is only built well enough to do what it is designed to do... it's not ment to taken to 8,000 RPM and since it was not designed to, the parts used aren't really good enough to take it and i've seen many upon many fail and have to be rebuilt... i would have said GSR because to do an LS VTEC "the right way" it end up not being any cheaper than a B18C1 i have read upon searching when i was going to run with an LS/V myself...

Unless you want to take the time and money to properly build a lsvtec get a gsr.

More reliable, depending on the tune. Put the GSR head on the LS block then.

ls-v = trash if its not balanced and built. if your not going to balance the LS block then dont rev it past 8000max rpm its a LS block its meant to rev to 7000 rpm. if you keep reving it to 9000-9500 with basic slap on with no upgraded rods, bearings, bolts, balanced block then say bye bye to your ls-v in a few months or weeks depending how you treat it. <----------- IMO

guys with slap-on ls-vtec dont flame on me now.

stock ls blocks shouldn't be revved past 7k. if you want an ls/vtec to last you gotta do a complete rebuild, which will end up being more expensive than a stock gsr engine. there's a reason why the higher-revving gsr comes with a different block than the ls, even both they're both 1.8L. i wouldn't recommend an ls/vtec to anybody unless they're planning a complete rebuild. sticking a vtec head on a stock ls block isn't gonna last.

how many miles on these engines that 'last'? a stock gsr motor will go to 200k without any major problems. i drive about 30k a year. how many years would this ls/vtec 'last' before i'll be buying a new engine?

like everyone else has said, it depends on how well you've built it up, and how much you beat on it.

No need to regret it. No matter what people say, if done correctly the first time it is realiable.

Nah, 15k a year isn't generously low. The average for people driving is around the 15k a year you said. As for me I've been ls/vtec and boosted (happened all at once) since 08/20/2003. That motor had roughly 29,000 miles on it. I rebuilt it because I wanted to, not because it blew up or something. The newest motor and setup started up on 09/19/2005 and it has between 20-25k miles on it right now. 25k a year is definitely above average....not many people I know that go from Ohio to Alabama like 5ish times a year (school year, aug-may) which is a 9.5 hour trip with good flowing traffic just to see their girlfriend for the weekend.

What I would do is put a Ls crank in the gsr block. No oil lines almost makes it a 1.9 with arp rod bolts, get the crank balanced and shot peen the rods. Ls vtec with a gsr badage.
