im not getting anywhere hammering from the top, any special ways you guys did it , im having problems clearing the tranny for a clean wack at the pin, has anybody ever gotten the thing out hammering at an angle from the top?
I've always just hammered it out with a punch from the bottom with no problems. I dont know if everyone's just gets mangled or what. Are you using a punch, or a bolt or what?
I did mine from the bottom and was a pita...a lot of hammering but once its loose it comes right out. I soak min with penetraiting fluid and used a punch and 4lb sledge and 15 minutes later it came out
ummm.. you can hammer it out eaither way, since the pin is like a spring kinda. I used slight heat directly on the pin, but kept a COLD rag on the bushings so they dont melt.. and kept a bucket of ICE watter right beside me, heated it for 5 sec's, came out in 2 taps, then once it was pulled apart i dunked it in the cold water.. this way the heat didnt travel though the steel fast enough to melt the bushings in that part of the linkage.
Just get the proper tool you tool

Thats what I say, I have hammered out over 100 shift pins and never had a problem. I don't understand how people have problems with these.

Swing that hammer/small sledge with some *** behind it, or go ask your mom.

I noticed you said the motor is out the car. Just take the tranny off it takes like 5 minutes if that. Flip it upside down and use a 1/4 extension and hammer and tap it out. Thats what I have always done for years and it works. Or you can go buy a 0.8mm punch from snapon but thats $$$.

Use a peice of wood to get it started. Once it's fairly deep in there, just whack it.

Not really, if you sit there and hit the pin 100 times like a puss it will mushroom out but if you get 4-5 good hits on it to get it in, it is normaly fine.
