fixing a cracked cf hood??
aye guys, my cf hood i got has a crack about 5-6 inches in the front of the hood. kinda near the latch but towards the driver side more. the crack is a deep one. pretty much right through the bottom of the hood too. clear coat around it is starting to crack as well.
are there any places that can fix this for a decent price and re-coat it as well??
here are my options:
1) fiberglass the inside of the hood and put epoxy over it then have someone probably just recoat the cf hood over the crack.
2) bondo the crack, sand it down and paint the whole hood the color of my car
just wanted to see if any of u guys know a place that specializes in this. i dont feel like having the cf hood painted over cuz it wont be known as a cf hood no more. lol any clues?

I took my CF hood to the local Honda dealer, and they did a great job epoxying and painting the hood to match my car. Just call around to a few places and make sure they've done this type of work before giving your hood to them.
thats what i was thinking too but this hood is still in good shape. just that crack....i just wanna see if there are any local places in the bay area over here in cali that charges a decent price...or if i can try to do it myself.

Usually when the hood cracks it's time for a new hood.
My friend swaps hoods off his EJ8 come winter so the ice 'n **** we get (plus getting it all off the hood) doesn't scratch/crack the CF hood.
Not to mention it's plastic over the spark plug wires and don't want hail to fall there :-\.
So he just bought a junkyard hood for the winter.
CF hoods can be a pain in the ***, if they crack, they're usually screwed. Some pple repaint them (as seen above) or re-seal them but neither is worth it in my opinion. It's just gonna crack again and if you repaint it it looks like **** anyways.
New hood - but that's just me.

i'm not so sure about that. you'd probably ending up sanding completey through the clear coat down to the carbon fiber trying to smooth it out. if you look at a cf hood in good lighting you'll see what i'm talking about.

Yeah it kind of has that flannel underwear texture going on. but I think if you block sanded the hood to begin with using lower grit paper and got up to about 400 and smoothed out the existing clear coat, then shoot it with filler primer & block sand again with 600+, that would even it out nicely.
yeah it would take some work, but if he really is attached to the hood and has more time than money... I'd do it if the crack was repaired.

it helps for a smoother finish, if you use sandpaper on your hand, your fingers will make it uneven since they are not flat.
