Question for those who have a: Removable Steering Wheel
Hello,
I searched and couldn't find anything. I was wondering for those of you who have removable steering wheels, does it take a long time to take off and put back on? I am thinking about getting one as another layer of security. Any help is appreciated.

What's fun, is once you have it off. Stand up with your back against a wall, and hold the wheel about 2" from your face. Have a friend connect the positive wire, and the negative wire to a battery, and wait for the fun to begin!

... Kidding, please don't do that.

Hi Jeff! Hows Arizona?
OP: Are you asking how long it takes to pull the OEM wheel off and put it back on if you change your mind? Or how long does it take to remove and put back on the detachable setup?

If you take the wheel with you when car is parked, it will be hard to drive it, so yes it can offer som extra security against theft.
I'm not really sure either what you are really asking about, but it takes me a couple of seconds to attach the wheel, and I think i spent maybe 30 mins. total on the swap job.

I got a funny story with removeable wheels.
One day while driving my former EM1, I was getting on the highway on ramp. I look over my shoulder for oncoming traffic and gave the wheel a light pull as I did it. The wheel wasnt secured on the hub and came off in my hands while doing approx 60mph in a left hand sweeper.
I had a quick "moment of realization" as I thought,
"ok I can drop the wheel and grab the hub," or "try to slam the wheel back onto the hub" or "I can stomp on the brakes, scream like a girl and hope for the best." I choosed to slam the wheel back onto the hub just as the car was starting to drift onto the shoulder of the road. Luckily it worked and I'm still here and capable of telling this story. I learned a valuable lesson that day. Always precheck that the wheel is secure BEFORE you start driving.

going well brandon! hope all is well!
as for the folks whos wheel came off when driving.. ill chalk that one up to driver error. check the wheel before you drive. Most good hubs lock and you can tell right away.

I am talking about how long it takes to remove and put back on the detachable setup.
If it only takes a few seconds, that is cool. I think I will get one. Now it's a matter of picking one that is capable of attaching to the "quick release" system. Does anyone know what other nice steering wheels fit the quick release system other the nardi steering wheels. Do I have to custom fit it if I want a spoon steering wheel or jdm non srs?

Most quick release systems are made for standard 6 bolt steering wheels, if you want to use OEM wheels then you'd have to go custom.
But that's just a regular MOMO wheel, it even says so on it. A JDM non SRS wheel is a totally different story, as that is designed to bolt straight to the splined column as all OEM wheels, and I have yet to see a quick release made to be used together with OEM wheels.

I agree...I don't think there will ever be a QRS setup for the OEM/JDM steering wheel...The QRS is mainly for the aftermarket wheels ie. Spoon, Mugen, MOMO, Sparco, Etc.

if you have a horn in the center of the steering wheel which most universal aftermarket wheels do...then you just need a little time and effort to make the horn work. it has been covered to a degree here if you research it. the FG360, with its horn buttons on the OUTSIDE of the wheel and to the sides...now thats a different story. im still trying to figure that out myself.
