Default diff exploded on turbo b16

i took a friend of mine for a ride last night to let him feel the H power anyway...

here is the carnage

when i pulled the axle this is what i found...

the diff with the phantom grip still installed but turned sideways

the problem starter...

pieces....

the money shot

i honestly believe that the phantom grip caused most of the problems....
the pin was definetly worn right around where the phantom grip is...
although first gen b-series trannies are notorious for breaking the diff pin with more than 200 whp

Yeah. That's a tough one. Hard to tell if it was just tranny failure or phantom grip. The damage in the tranny looks identical to what happened to me though.

most likely the phantom grip was installed incorrectly u need to reshim the diff shims when you place a diff lock in, looks like your spider gears took a **** from too much stress and dropped the diff allmost out the case!

how long was the diff lock used?

Good diffs

The benefits of "Phantom Grips" Heck...at least you got a year out of it!

original shims....hhhmmm OBX has the worst clearancing issues(inconsistent)...I have yet to use the original shims on any install....main reason why we do not do install them anymore...even if supplied by a customer... aside from their other issues which have been covered time and time again.

Time for a QUAIFE!!!

That won't matter. And you put it in during the summer didn't you? It's only been like half a year.

^^^ Yeah. When I was trying to nurse my car home the one time after blowing the diff at the track. I drove it down the road to a place I knew... and the whole time I had the wheel cranked left but it was still pushing right a little. Never had steering wheel pressure like that before.
